Hi friends, welcome back! I know what you’re thinking, another ice cream post!? And you’re not wrong, my diet lately consists of a lot of pizza and ice cream on the weekends, but I’ve heard that ice cream goes to the heart and not the stomach so it’s fine. There aren’t many ice cream shops in the Financial District, but in the Seaport District, only a few blocks away there are two: Van Leeuwen and Big Gay Ice Cream. Jon and I have been to Van Leeuwens a few times but we never tried Big Gay Ice Cream because we thought it might be an overpriced and overrated ice cream shop.
Last weekend I had a few cavities filled at the dentist and I was vey hungry afterwards, but couldn’t chew, so we headed out for ice cream. It was a beautiful day so we walked to Big Gay Ice Cream to give it a shot and the shop was busy! We went around 5pm on a Sunday and there was a line out the door when we were leaving, but it moved quickly so don’t be deterred.
Big Gay Ice cream has a few signature cones that are very unique with equally crazy names. Jon tried out the Salty Pimp which was a cone with vanilla ice cream, dulce de leche, and dipped in chocolate. I tried a bite and it was yummy! I would have ordered this if I could chew.
I was craving an ice cream sundae so I made my own with vanilla ice cream, dulce de leche, and sprinkles for fun. This was delicious!!! I really underestimated how good it would be. The ice cream was so thick and creamy, I already want to go back! I wish I knew how to describe the texture of the ice cream, but all I can say is that it’s high quality ice cream and you have to try it for yourselves 🙂

Jon and I both concluded this is one of our favorite ice cream shops in the city! We can’t believe we waited so long to try it out and we’re very glad it’s within walking distance of our apartment. I can’t wait for the summer and to get some ice cream and walk along the Seaport District piers. We also agreed that Big Gay Ice Cream is better than its neighbor Van Leeuwen’s. If you’re in the Seaport District and wanting ice cream, Big Gay Ice Cream is the way to go!
