NYC Foodie Friday: January 2022

Hi friends, welcome back to another addition of my monthly series showcasing all my delicious eats during the month. As you know, one of my favorite parts of living in NYC is the abundance of incredible food, and I’ve been on a mission to try all the best places and share my finds along the way. Disclaimer: these posts will cause hunger 🙂 If you want to stay up to date on all the foodie finds, you can follow my food Instagram here.

I went to Dominique Ansel to grab the monthly cronut flavor of Caramel Flan Ganache & Orange Marmalade Jam. Dominque Ansel Bakery is right across the street from my favorite Trader Joe’s and it’s hard not to pick up a new cronut before/after I do some shopping. This flavor was my third favorite so far, my ordering of most to least favorite: Salted Caramel Pretzel, Almond and Fig, Caramel Flan & Orange Marmalade, and Green Apple Butterscotch.

This month I did a collaboration with Killer Brownies. They might be called killer because each brownie has about 720 calories, but I’d say they’re the best brownies you can purchase from the grocery store/online. These are some thick and incredibly delicious brownies!  They also sent me their peppermint ganache brownies that are the perfect winter flavor.

We only ordered takeout once this month and got our usual Pad Thai and a sushi roll from Arbor Bistro. We’ve been trying to eat a little healthier this month and with the addition of our pizza oven we didn’t need to order our massive pizza.

On MLK day Jon and I took a long, frigid walk and then stopped by Big Gay Ice Cream for a treat. We came here right before the pandemic and I was craving it for months, but when it finally reopened the ice cream tasted off, so we gave it one more try and I’m happy to report it tasted as good as I remembered the first time. All is right in my ice cream loving world ha!

I met my friend Liz for lunch at Jack’s Wife Freda and we had a delicious lunch! We shared the Fried Zucchini Chips and then I ordered an extremely flavorful chicken kebob bowl, and Liz ordered the Grilled Eggplant Baguette. She’s a bit more adventurous than me haha. We had a great lunch here and already want to come back and try more on the menu!

I also collaborated with Kitchen United Mix’s new location in NYC and they’re a spot you can order from 10+ places on one bill. This would be perfect if you and your significant other are craving different things for dinner, or super convenient for office lunch/dinners. We tried out the “Superior Choice Village Beef Burger” and “Seasoned French Fries” from Burger Village, and the “Kung Pao Style” with chicken from Han Dynasty NYC. If I had to pick, I’d say the burger was my favorite of the two, but they’re very difficult meals to compare.

The last thing I grabbed this month was a Caramel Confetti Blondie from Poshpop Bake Shop. This blondie is always all over my Instagram feed and I’ve been craving it for months. We ate a fourth of it and had a major sugar rush but it tasted incredible! This bakery always has the best looking desserts, I’m dying to check out their s’mores bar next.

As I mentioned in my What’s Up post, Jon and I have been enjoying making our own pizzas in our pizza oven. I kind of like making our own better than ordering so then we don’t have so much pizza leftover.

We made some healthier Pad Thai that tasted pretty delicious!

Sometimes all I crave is buttered noodles, maybe because that was one of the few things I’d eat as a child ha! Jon makes some delicious, elevated buttered and cheesy noodles.

We made this Chicken Ramen Noodle Stir Fry recipe from Damn Delicious and it turned out great! It must be the cold weather making me crave noodles.

My favorite snack of the month has been these Trader Joe’s Truly Tortilla Chips. They have a hint of lime that tastes amazing with the salty chip. TJs didn’t have these chips for a few months so I was very relieved to see they were back in stock! I’ve been starting to grab a few bags whenever I go just in case.

Another Trader Joe’s find is this Moscow Mule, a four pack is only $10. It tastes great and is super convenient! Moscow Mules are my favorite drink of choice at the moment, so I was very excited this tasted good. The drinks from TJs can be hit or miss, but this is definitely a hit if you like Moscow Mules!

Lastly, I made some peanut butter chocolate chip cookies that are perfectly chewy.

What was your favorite foodie find of the month?

  1. What Sheree said! Great food photos, Lyssy! Those brownies are mental. Curiously enough, we are also trying to eat healthier this month, so we cook vegan and vegetarian meals every day. It is just really hard to stay away from the ‘munchies’, ha ha (i.e. candy/chocolate/cookies).

    1. I have heard of people doing “Veganuary” I think it’s called. Not sure I could give up my chicken nuggets though 😉 staying away from the muchies is very hard!!!

  2. Almost passed up the opp to comment, but the Caramel Confetti Blondie looks spectacular, especially with its elegant pink “hat”. Seriously, it looks like it stands on its own without the frosting, but I guess they wanted to take the sugar rush to another level!

    1. It was so rich! I was surprised a bit because the caramel tasted just like the kind you buy from the store to dip apples in. This bakery takes everything to another level!

    1. Hahaha torture by food pictures 🙂 Reminds me of whenever I would decide to eat healthier I would always have dreams about secretly eating dessert haha

  3. We had such a fun and adventurous lunch outing at Jacks Wife Freda! Need to do that again.

Can you tell me how you made the healthier Pad Thai? Everything looks so unbelievably delicious here.

  4. Shouldn’t have read this with my breakfast… now I’m craving a morning dessert 😂 The brownies and blondie look so so good! Also, I’m bookmarking that ramen stir fry recipe. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Haha a morning dessert sounds wonderful although I think my cereal I eat for breakfast has enough sugar to be a dessert ha! Let me know what you think of the ramen stir fry!

      1. I finally made the ramen stir fry today to eat for lunches this week and it’s so tasty. Thanks again for sharing it!
