What’s Up: March 2024

Hi friends, welcome back! March was a good month for Jon and I. We saw some Broadway shows, visited a museum, botanical garden, watched a lot of March Madness, and had a somewhat spontaneous trip to Miami. Jon had to go down for work so we flew down a day early to hang at Miami Beach and get some much needed warmth and sunshine. While Jon was at the conference, I kept myself busy visiting a waterfront Gilded Age mansion, explored the city, and caught up on some reading. We came back to a cold front and really missed walking to get iced coffee in a t-shirt and shorts. I’ll be sharing more about our trip soon 🙂

In the meantime 🙂 I’ve been linking up with the first blogger I ever read, Shay Shull, for my What’s Up posts. Each month I’m answering the following questions:

What I’m eating: we made Kale Junkie’s One-Pan Marry Me Chicken Orzo this weekend and it was delicious! I think next time we will double the recipe so we can have more leftovers.

What I’m reminiscing about: Jon and I went to Miami back in February 2020 and little did we know what was coming! Feels like a lifetime ago. It was a bit chilly for Florida last time, so we enjoyed our trip this year a lot more.

What I’m loving: I’ve been opening our windows on nice days and the fresh air just feels so good! Somehow half the time I open the windows a big fly gets in here, but I am pretty good at getting them out alive. I still can’t figure out how they can get all the way up here!

Favorite post of the month: I loved touring the Morgan Library & Museum and having the library to ourselves for a few minutes.

What I’m Up to: enjoying all the March Madness! My bracket is currently in a tie for second place but my mom’s bracket is currently in the top 12,000 out of 22 million!

What I’m working on: last month I said I was working on thinking of blog ideas, now I’ve got about ten posts to keep me busy 🙂 Next up is the New York Botanical Garden Orchid Show.

What I’m excited about: my favorite dress brand, Hill House, had an open casting call in NYC so my friend and I decided to go and see if this was our big break. We coordinated outfits and I’ll admit it was a little embarrassing twinning on the subway and having people stare at us, but we had fun! We got to meet the founder, Nellie Diamond which we were fangirling over and they gave us a $50 gift card, so even if we don’t get picked it was definitely worth going!

What I’m watching/reading: The Middle, Flipping Out, Abbott Elementary, Lessons in Chemistry, March Madness, and golf.

Books I read this month:

  • The Heiress by Rachel Hawkins
  • Come & Get It by Kiley Reid
  • No One Can Know by Kate Alice Marshall

What I’m doing this weekend: we have a quick trip to San Francisco for Jon’s friend’s wedding.

What I’m looking forward to next month: all the spring things and watching The Masters! Hopefully we can go hiking one weekend too.

What are you looking forward to in April?

  1. Another fun filled month Lyssy. Travelling to a warm destination in the winter or early spring is fun. Returning to the cold, not so much. Have a great trip to San Francisco. SF is one of our favourite cities to visit. Happy Wednesday. Allan

    1. It’s always hard to return to the cold, I was hoping I could put away my winter coat, but not anytime soon. Thank you – we will only be there Friday night – Sunday morning, but hopefully we can see a few things.

  2. Looks like you had a wonderful month of March 🙂 I love the sight of Miami Beach with the gorgeous blue sky and palm trees swaying in the wind. Thanks for sharing, and have a great time in San Francisco 🙂 Aiva xx

    1. Miami Beach was so pretty! We wished we could’ve added a few days to the trip. Thank you!

  3. What a fabulous month! That quick trip to Miami sounds wonderful. I hope you have a fabulous time at the wedding.

  4. Haha, I just got back from a birthday trip to San Francisco! An absolutely gorgeous city, and I hope you have a wonderful time there! Glad you got to spend some time in Miami Beach, a bit of warmth from the cold winter (now spring) in NYC, I imagine! Have a wonderful month ahead, Lyssy!

    1. I will just miss you, I’ve been enjoying seeing all the pics from your trip! You sure saw and ate a lot 🙂 It was very nice to enjoy the Miami weather and so difficult coming home and pulling my gloves and hat back out. Hope you have a great April too!

    1. The most amazing thing is that I only got sunburned on two little spots! I figured you’d understand what an accomplishment that is ha!

  5. Ah, Vizcaya. Glad you got to visit and hope you’ll blog about it. A magnificent villa that we studied during my years at Notre Dame. I may have to try the chicken dish just for the creative title. And way to go Mom on the college hoops bracket! She must’ve picked Oakland and/or Grand Canyon. My son-in-law had my one-year-old granddaughter make a bracket by choosing berries (strawberries = higher seeds, blueberries = lower – get it?). And for the record, I picked your Spartans to win against Mississippi State. Guess I figured Izzo could get them through at least one round 🙁

    1. I’ll definitely be blogging about Vizcaya 🙂 The chicken dish was very easy to make too. My mom picked GCU, but not Oakland. That Oakland game was a good one but really messed up my bracket. I bet your grand daughter didn’t even finish last in the group with that method! I had faith in Izzo first round too, but I figured UNC would make a far run so I lowered my expectations. Game got a little sloppy at the end, but Izzo said he was going to die trying to make more tournament runs so that’s music to my ears 🙂

      1. My granddaughter is still in second place in our family group of ten brackets. She picked Washington State to win it all (suspicious; that’s where my son-in-law went 🙂 ) so she’s done getting points. Just goes to show though, you might as well throw darts at a blank bracket.

      2. Suspicious and true! Jon said next year he’s just picking all the higher seeds. He’s in second to last ahead of my sisters bf. I’m 10/15 sadly

  6. Another great month and lovely that you could hop on a plane to spend a few days in sunny Florida. I had no idea what March Madness was but I looked it up and now I know it’s a basketball tournament. Enjoy the wedding weekend over in San Fransisco and have a lovely Easter break Lyssy.

    1. The time in Miami was a much needed break from winter! Ah yes I forgot March Madness is only really known about in the US. It’s a fun tournament to watch, anything can happen. WE had a great time in SF, just such a long journey from NYC. 6.5 hour flight for us going there, seems the same distance as London.

  7. This sounds like a wonderful month full of adventures! That is really cool with Hill House and a fun experience as well. I am excited to read about the New York Botanical Show too!

    1. Hill House was cool, sadly didn’t get picked haha. Hope you enjoy the NYBG Orchid show post 🙂

  8. Great month, Lyssy. I also had to look up March Madness, I had no idea what it was. A break in Miami Beach sounds wonderful! Looking forward to your new articles as always.

    1. It’s funny because March Madness always ends in early April, but it’s a fun tournament to watch! Miami was a nice break, we needed some sun and warmth.

  9. Sounds like another productive and adventurous month. Looking forward to reading about your experience at the New York Botanical Garden Orchid Show. P.S. Love the matching outfits!

    1. Thank you! We didn’t get picked, but it was still fun to go. Hard to believe it’s April, these months are starting to fly by.
