Hi friends, welcome back! I’ve got a life update to share with you all: we’re moving! We’ve been pondering the move to the suburbs since we re-signed our lease last May, and this year finally felt like the right time. We found a townhome to rent while we scope out the different towns and decide where to officially settle down. I’m very excited we’ll have double our current space, a basement for our home gym and my holiday decorations, and a little backyard. It’s bittersweet to be leaving the city, but we’ve always known the suburbs was our end goal. We also won’t be too far so I still plan to come into the city from time to time, especially around the holidays.

What I’m excited about:
- Double the space
- Backyard for Violet to safely run around and play
- Being able to grill
- Less crowds, especially at the playgrounds
- Easier access to the Hudson Valley
- New place to decorate
Things I’ll miss:
- Walking everywhere and not having to drive
- Our apartment views
- Not having stairs
- Convenience of everything I need within a block or two
- Being so close to Museums, Broadway, & the best restaurants
- Our friends that are one block away
- Christmas in NYC
We’re moving next week and the packing has begun! It’s a busy summer for us, but I’m excited for all the changes and fun ahead!
Refresh my memory please. What city?
We’ll be in Greenwich
Having a little one changes everything Lyssy. Congratulations on your upcoming move and best wishes on finding the perfect place for the 3 of you. Allan
It sure does, especially one that loves to RUN…Thank you! I can only imagine what the grandparents will start sending little Violet now that there’s a basement for toys.

Me when you are done 😂 Mom
Ha ha ha
It sounds like you’ve weighed it all out. Sending you good wishes for a great new beginning.
Thank you!! It’s hard to leave, but I know we’ll be glad we did it.
Wishing you and the family all the best in your search for a new home.
Thank you!!
Wohooo! A new chapter in the suburbs!!
Yeah!! Following in your footsteps 🙂
Wow, big changes! Similarly, my spouse and I are in the process of finding a place and moving this summer. We’ll still be in LA, but in a different neighborhood. Here’s to a smooth move, and I hope you get settled in nicely with your family, Lyssy!
Thank you! That is very exciting to start your new chapter in a new place. Hope you find a great place and your move goes smoothly!
Congratulations. Changes happen. I will miss your amazing posts!
Thank you! Hopefully I’ll still have a lot of my usual posts. I don’t think I can stay away from the city.
Congratulations! Violet will love the space as will you. There’s something special about being able to raise children closer to nature. Although, I have to say your photo collages after the past few years have some beautiful photos of Central Park and NYC! Maybe you’ll be grilling out soon for a delayed 4th celebration? May your move be a smooth one. I’m sure you are all excited.
Thank you! I can only imagine how many more toys she’ll have now that there’s room for bigger things. Being around more nature and better smells will be nice. I love Central Park, but it was a trek from downtown to get there. I will definitely be doing a lot of grilling soon! We will get to see the Macy’s fireworks perfectly from our window so I’m considering that my goodbye from the city 🙂
That’s awesome!! Now there’s room for Violet to have a sister or brother 😊
Yes!! Two kids in the city is not a path we wanted to take, it’s not for the weak haha.
Best of luck with all your plans. Hope you find a big enough space for all your wonderful seasonal decorations!!! Looking forward to your walkabouts in your new town – wherever it may be – and hopefully you’ll be able to continue posting your great stories about New York…
Thank you!! I have to make sure all my glass pumpkins are very secure so they don’t break!! Hopefully when I post my Halloween decorations I’ll have beautifully organized shelves of my decorations. I am planning to spend a few nights in the city around the holidays to see it all.
That’s such fantastic news – wishing you all the best with the move wherever it may take you. Moving from the city to the suburbs offers more space and a quieter lifestyle, not to mention private backyards, which are so important when you have little ones. We lived in Dublin for 15 years, and as much as I loved city life and being close to museums and art galleries, starting a family changed everything, and I couldn’t be happier with our move to Ireland’s West Coast. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx
Thank you!! Violet is a fast runner so that backyard will be amazing to have. She always enjoys her walks when we visit our families in the suburbs so I think she’ll thrive. You are right, having kids changes everything and it’s nice having a quieter atmosphere with more space. Getting into the better schools in NYC is almost as hard as getting into colleges and I had no desire to go through that.
How exciting Lyssy – wishing you much happiness in your new home.
Thank you!! It is a very exciting adventure.
Congratulations! That’s exciting.
Thank you!! We’ll be in the same state 🙂
How exciting! Best of luck packing and moving. And hopefully the house hunt goes well! It’s always nice to have a backyard and more space when you have a kid.
This is certainly the start of a new chapter in your life. You always seem to organise everything so well at just the right time. Your Manhattan bird’s nest, exciting as it was, wasn’t the best place for family life; you’re going to see the city from a different perspective. I’m sure you’ll come away with some interesting insights.
