Sushumai Asain Fusion Review NYC

Hi friends, happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend. We played golf all day Sunday soaking up the last bit of summer weather and went out to dinner Saturday. We went to Sushumai Asian Fusion for some delicious sushi! I realized that we hadn’t had sushi since we went to Shiro in April, crazy! I used to think sushi was the grossest thing ever, but now I love it!

We stopped by Beauty and Essex for drinks before our reservation. Jon and I were last here in February for restaurant week and had the best time so it was nice going back. This restaurant is in the back of a pawn shop and has the coolest atmosphere.

At Sushumai we started with the BBQ Pork Buns and they were almost too cute to eat! They were like a cupcake with the pork in the middle. I liked this because it didn’t create a mess, usually things slide out of the bun and the sauce drips, so this was a nice twist. The downside was that they were more bun then pork, but they were still a nice appetizer.

Jon and I always share four sushi rolls and we got the Dynamite Roll, Stanton Roll, Signature Roll, and the Krazy Salmon Roll. We both agreed the Dynamite roll and Signature were our favorites.

The Dynamite Roll: this one was my favorite, it was sweet because of the eel sauce and had so many delicious flavors and proteins

The Signature Roll: this one had a perfect amount of sweet and spiciness and a great combination of flavors

The Krazy Salmon Roll: this was very good, a little bit spicy

The Stanton Roll: this was the first sushi I’ve seen not have rice in it. This was nice because it was protein packed and balanced out all of the flavors in the other rolls

We had a reservation at 6:15 on a Saturday and we were the first people there. It was so nice having our own table and not having anyone sitting right next to us as is typical in NYC. Sometimes it feels like you’re eating dinner with the people next to you so this was a nice treat. We had such a great evening at Sushumai and would highly recommend checking it out!
