West Side Community Garden Tulip Festival 2026

Hi friends, welcome back! Spring is finally here and I couldn’t be happier. Last spring I only saw the blooms around our neighborhood, so I’m excited to get back out there and see the city blossoming after a long winter.  My first adventure was to the West Side Community Garden on 89th Street between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenue for their annual Tulip Festival. I strapped Violet into her carrier and we headed uptown. I jumped the gun a little because not all the tulips had bloomed yet.

Mid-April through early May is the best time to see them, but we still enjoyed seeing some beautiful colors. The garden is open every day and free to the public.

If I lived closer I’d take advantage of this little oasis. There’s plenty of benches and a few tables and chairs to enjoy lunch or coffee. Every time I’ve been there have been elementary or preschool school kids walking through on a little field trip. It really emphasizes the community aspect of the space.

This is from my last visit in 2024 when the garden was in full bloom.

The garden is only a block and a half from Central Park, so we headed there next so Violet could run around. I’ve got to get back up there for a proper tour!

While the tulips weren’t quite at their peak, it was nice getting out of our neighborhood and spending time uptown. More spring in NYC to come 😊

  1. Nothing says spring as well as scads of colourful tulips Lyssy. I agree with you, it would be nice to just sit on a bench and take it all in….but, Violet likes to keep moving, right? Happy Wednesday. Allan

    1. Spring and tulips are like peanut butter and jelly. Oh yes she went from crawling to running! When we go to the park with our friends I just chase her the whole time. Time for a yard!

  2. Despite not being at its peak, it’s still beautiful and bright and colorful… everything spring should be. And oh my goodness, look at Violet walking around. She’s gotten so big!

    1. The garden is a perfect little spring oasis. She is growing up too fast! Any chance to run she takes it and is getting a little too fast…
