Hi friends, welcome back! Spring is finally here and I couldn’t be happier. Last spring I only saw the blooms around our neighborhood, so I’m excited to get back out there and see the city blossoming after a long winter. My first adventure was to the West Side Community Garden on 89th Street between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenue for their annual Tulip Festival. I strapped Violet into her carrier and we headed uptown. I jumped the gun a little because not all the tulips had bloomed yet.

Mid-April through early May is the best time to see them, but we still enjoyed seeing some beautiful colors. The garden is open every day and free to the public.

If I lived closer I’d take advantage of this little oasis. There’s plenty of benches and a few tables and chairs to enjoy lunch or coffee. Every time I’ve been there have been elementary or preschool school kids walking through on a little field trip. It really emphasizes the community aspect of the space.

This is from my last visit in 2024 when the garden was in full bloom.

The garden is only a block and a half from Central Park, so we headed there next so Violet could run around. I’ve got to get back up there for a proper tour!

While the tulips weren’t quite at their peak, it was nice getting out of our neighborhood and spending time uptown. More spring in NYC to come 😊
Nothing says spring as well as scads of colourful tulips Lyssy. I agree with you, it would be nice to just sit on a bench and take it all in….but, Violet likes to keep moving, right? Happy Wednesday. Allan
Spring and tulips are like peanut butter and jelly. Oh yes she went from crawling to running! When we go to the park with our friends I just chase her the whole time. Time for a yard!
Despite not being at its peak, it’s still beautiful and bright and colorful… everything spring should be. And oh my goodness, look at Violet walking around. She’s gotten so big!
The garden is a perfect little spring oasis. She is growing up too fast! Any chance to run she takes it and is getting a little too fast…
Another great showcase of your city….. I love tulips – that purple mixture is gorgeous….
I love tulips too, they really brighten up the city.
What a beautiful outing with violet ✌️
It was a perfect morning!
Fabulous colours in the garden, thanks Lyssy
They do a great job curating the garden.
Even jumping the gun a bit it all looks lovely!
It’s such a beautiful garden!
The tulips are so beautiful, even if a little early. And Violet is adorable running around Central Park!
It is a beautiful garden. Any chance she gets to run she takes it!
What beautiful blooms! Spring is finally here, and I’m glad you got to see so many colorful tulips with your family 😊
So happy spring is finally here, it was a great spring morning!
Gorgeous vibrant colours, Lyssy xx
I enjoyed all the beautiful colors!
It’s lovely to see all these colours. I can understand why you’re keen to see the back of winter.
It’s nice to see the city vibrant after the long, cold winter.
Tulips are one of my favourite spring flowers and feel so cheery. Thanks for taking us around this community garden I’m sure Violet enjoyed it too!
Beautiful tulips! What did Violet think of all of it?
Beautiful tulips, and look at Violet go – she’s grown so much! 🙂
So many beautiful spring blossoms. Ours are just starting to come up now. Hard to believe Violet is already running around! They grow up so quickly.
Beautiful tulips and hyacinths, and Violet! Love the community aspect of this vibrant garden. Thanks for bringing colour to the reader again, Lyssy!
