What’s Up: October 2024

Hi friends, welcome back! October sure flew by but I’m not ready for spooky season to end. We fully embraced the fall activities with treats, non-scary Halloween movies, a trip to the Great Jack O’ Lantern Blaze, and checking out some decorations around the city. In between the fall fun we are getting ready for baby so it’s an extra busy and fun time of year.

On to my post 🙂 I’ve been linking up with the first blogger I ever read, Shay Shull, for my What’s Up posts. Each month I’m answering the following questions:

What I’m eating: all the fall treats and flavors. I’m not a huge pumpkin spice person, but pumpkin bread doesn’t stand a chance around me. I did my fair share of baking with my favorite brown butter pumpkin cookies and some classic sugar cookies. I also stocked up on my favorite fall items from Trader Joe’s. Sadly I’d been waiting all year for those pumpkin waffles and they were part of the recall.

We also had our friends over for dinner and Chef Jon made some delicious enchiladas all from scratch.

What I’m reminiscing about: the fun of being a kid around Halloween and sorting all my candy on Halloween night

What I’m loving: our weather has been so good that now NY is on draught watch

Favorite post of the month: my Halloween apartment tour, I love when our apartment feels this cozy

What I’m Up to: I think I’ve got about ten different to do lists I’m working on

What I’m working on: organizing the thousands of pictures on my computer & moving them to my external hard drive

What I’m excited about: we did our maternity pictures in Central Park and I can’t wait to get the full gallery

What I’m watching/reading: Nobody Wants This, Only Murders in the Building, Tell Me Lies, Abbott Elementary, Agatha All Along, and non-scary Halloween movies like It’s A Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, Hubie Halloween, and Hocus Pocus

Books I read this month:

  • Summer Romance by Annabel Monaghan
  • Expiration Dates by Rebecca Serle

What I’m doing this weekend: putting the nursery together & attending our friends apartment warming party

What I’m looking forward to next month: all the Christmas decorations and holiday cheer, although I’m not sure how much I’ll actually be able to see this year

What are you looking forward to in November?

  1. As usual you’re still getting plenty of things done. Love the idea of having a pregnancy photo-shoot. I so have to organise our photos which are all on DropBox in chronological order.

    1. It was fun to get dressed up again, that doesn’t happen often these days. It is amazing how quick the photos can accumulate but I never think to move them off my computer in a timely manner.

  2. I think your Central Park photo should be labeled “Thanksgiving”, not only for the baby but because the photo is your blog transition from Halloween to Christmas 😉

  3. Oh gosh, organizing photos is such a chore. I’m way behind on that too. Looks like you still squeezed in plenty of other things, though. I’m so excited Only Murders and Abbott have finally returned! Hopefully we can watch the Only Murders finale tonight.

    1. It is such a chore! It seems like a lot of people relate to it ha! Those are both such good shows to watch. I’m never able to figure out the murderer.

  4. Lots on the go and lots to look forward to Lyssy. Love the Hallowe’en and autumn themes. Nice to do a home cooked meal for company. Once we get back home, we will have to get into that. Right now, we are in Vancouver for at least one more month, three weeks of which are Benji sitting. We have been getting into our walks, hikes, exploring and food and have walked almost 86 km (53 1/2 mil3es) In less than 2 weeks. We are enjoying all the food treats close by and yesterday had cinnamon and cardamom cruffins with our coffee. Hoping to still keep walks up as it is pretty rainy right now. Happy Wednesday Lyssy. Allan

    1. We try to take turns with our friends, they are good cooks too and I usually take care of the dessert. That is very nice of you guys to Benji sit for so long, I’m sure he enjoys getting to be an only child around you guys. Hope you get some great fall weather for some walks. It’s always nice walking in a big city and having so many food options so available.

      1. We had a group of 6 when we were newly married and we were over at one house or another every weekend. My specialty is a Thai selection, Pozole and Lasagna, not all together. 🙂The weather has been greyer and wetter than usual, but we are getting our walks in (9.2 km yesterday). Have you finished Only Murders in the Building yet? Another great season.

      2. Sounds delicious, you’ve got quite the repertoire! Maybe you can send some of that rain over here, we need it. We did finish Only Murders in the Building, a great season that I didn’t have any idea of the killer. I was happy to see Eugene Levy too, he’s a gem.

  5. Those pumpkin cookies look amazing. I will need to try out the recipe. Thanks! Your baby bump looks so cute:)

  6. Aww lovely, your Halloween decor is awesome, and your dress for your maternity shoot – beautiful 🙂 Thinking of you as you make your final preparations ready for the arrival of Baby H and can’t wait to see you in the NY!

    1. Thank you, I’m not ready to take it down anytime soon. It was so hard to find a dress and I finally just ordered something off Amazon as a last resort and the quality was so good! Can’t wait for you to visit!!

  7. I love the photo from your maternity shoot in Central Park, Lyssy – you look so beautiful and radiant I love corn tortilla chips but had no idea you could get them leaf-shaped – how amazing is that! I bet they taste amazing! Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

    1. Thank you! It was fun getting all dolled up for a change, it doesn’t happen often these days. Those tortilla chips are great, they are very thick too so great for dips.

  8. Love the photo in Central Park, what a beautiful time in nature and in your lives!! 🙂 I hope to one day bring my daughter back to the city in fall AND Christmas/winter, your décor tours are always a favorite!

    1. Thank you, it is a very exciting time for sure 🙂 That would be such a special trip for you and your daughter, the fall and Christmas are the best time in the city. So glad you love the decor tours, they are always my favorite too.

  9. Those pumpkin cookies look delicious! 🎃 Fall is truly here in NYC, and Jon’s enchiladas look yummy and very cheesy. I just finished the OMITB finale, and it was a fun one; until next year for Season 5! Have a wonderful rest of October (and happy early Halloween)!

    1. Those cookies are incredible and so are the enchiladas! I’m always sad when OMITB has their season finale, I want the episodes to go on forever but I know that’s not possible haha. Glad there is another murder haha. Happy Halloween!

  10. I’m such a fan of Halloween too and everything pumpkin flavoured. Those enchiladas look amaaazing! That reminds me, I should probably move a bunch of my pictures onto my external hard drive too. Best of luck getting the nursery ready! So exciting!!!

    1. The enchiladas were a crowd pleaser for sure! It is amazing how fast pictures accumulate. I was at almost 90% of my 200gb iCloud storage but I need to make room for baby pictures. I am very excited to organize all the baby stuff!

    1. Thank you! It’s been a great fall over here. It’s nice to have a professional document these special times 🙂

  11. Those cookies look delicious! If that sneak peak it anything to go by your maternity photos are going to be fabulous!!

    1. The cookies are my favorite! I’m very excited for the whole gallery, we really had a perfect day and the foliage was almost at peak.

  13. I love all your Halloween decorations and how exciting NYC seems to be this time of the year! I came back from a long vacation at the end of October so fall is basically just starting for me and I’m super excited for everything pumpkin-y, so I’m really not in a festive mood yet! I hope you have a great month of November doing things that you love (and tackling your many to-do lists!)
