Greenwich Village Food Tour with Tasty Tours NYC

Hi friends, welcome back! I hope you aren’t hungry because today I’m taking you along on our Greenwich Village Food Tour. Ryan over at Tasty Tours NYC reached out to me to see if we’d be interested in attending and it was an extremely easy yes! He offers group tours of Greenwich Village, the Upper East Side, and the Upper West Side that last about two to two and a half hours. The cost is $79 a person which seems to be the going rate in NYC for a tour this length. Our group for the day included us, our guide Ryan, and a local father daughter duo who are also big foodies. Our tour started at 11am at Bagel Bob’s for some mini everything bagels on the creamiest cream cheese. They make their bagels the old-fashioned way by hand rolling, boiling, and then baking them. It was the perfect start to the tour!

We then walked through Washington Mews and this historic street used to be stable houses before being purchased by NYU and converted into faculty houses and offices. I’ve walked by this street many times and was always curious, now I know!

A few blocks south we stopped at Washington Square Park, one of the most famous parks in NYC. We all couldn’t believe when Ryan told us this used to be a Potter’s Field, essentially a public graveyard for those that couldn’t afford a private burial. They built the park on top of the bodies and we all agreed maybe we didn’t want to know that, but it explained a lot about the park today ha!

Our next bite was a delicious falafel from Mamoun’s Falafel and it was so flavorful! I dipped mine in some tahini but they also have some hot sauce that is presented with a disclaimer.

Next up some cozy arancini risotto balls from Faicco’s Italian Specialties. We saw them making sandwiches in the back and they looked like they weighed about five pounds. I’ll have to go back!

We passed by Taylor Swift’s old apartment on Cornelia Street. It has a pool in there and rents for $45-50k a month! People are constantly taking pictures in front so I don’t think I’d want to live here anyways 😉

Next, we warmed up with some Bleecker Street Pizza. Jon and I were first here in July 2019 and really loved the slices. They were famously voted by the Food Network as the Best Pizza three years in a row. We had their most popular Nona Marie Pie and couldn’t resist some garlic knots.

We passed by the Friends apartment building on our way to The Little Taco House for some tasty al pastor tacos. This spot was very little, so it seems a great spot for takeout.

Our final stop of the day was for a sweet treat at Molly’s Cupcakes. They won the first Cupcake Wars back in 2009 with their Peach Cobbler cupcake. Jon and I shared a Peach Cobbler and Cake Batter and they were both delicious! A sweet way to end our tour 🙂

Jon and I had such a great time on this food tour! I thought the portion sizes were perfect and we finished very full but not feeling sickly full. We loved the variety of stops along the way and that most of these spots were new to us. Ryan did a great job organizing the tour and was also very prepared with a Mary Poppins backpack filled with waters, extra plates, and napkins. Ryan was very personable, knowledgeable, and well-organized making for an outstanding tour! Highly recommend joining one of the Tasty Tours next time you’re in NYC!

  1. Food tours are the best way to get to know a place (even if you live there). The choices look like a good sample of what makes the Village what it is. Wow, building over a public graveyard. Talk about being ghosted. How tough is it to get voted Best Pizza once, let alone 3 times. Happy Monday Lyssy. Allan

    1. I agree! It was a good sample of all the different foods in the Village. A lot of crazies in that park so I suppose the ghosts are having their fun… We’ve been trying a lot of the top pizza spots this year, it’s hard to judge over the other when hey are all so tasty!

  2. Props to you for finding an equestrian term my wife never heard before (Mews). Just when I thought she knew everything about horses ha. Glad to see Washington Square Park is concrete and not grass. And for some reason I had baklava on the brain when you said falafel, so the photos confused me when I didn’t see dessert. Speaking of confused (maybe “bewildered” is the better word), what’s with the obsession with Taylor Swift? She’s becoming larger-than-life, like Michael Jackson, and we all know how that turned out. Not good for her or her adoring fans.

    1. I never knew what that term meant until the tour, educational and delicious! There are some grassy parts to the park, but I don’t think I’ve ever walked on them, and now I never will ha! Ha very different taste between falafel and baklava. The obsession with TS is pretty crazy! With people tracking her jets she really can’t escape either.

  3. Yet another deliciously wonderful post, Lyssy. I’ve never heard of risotto balls – I’d love to try them. And I wouldn’t be able to say no to freshly baked falafels as these crispy baked goodies are packed with flavour from garlic, shallot and plenty of fresh herbs. Thanks for sharing, and have a wonderful day. Aiva xx

    1. We first had Risotto balls in Italy, I know you’d love them! Those falafels were so fresh and flavorful. I really need to go back and get some more now that I don’t have to save room for more food stops 🙂

  4. What a delicious food tour! From pizza to tacos to cupcakes, you certainly had a wonderful day full of good food. Can’t believe that Taylor Swift’s former apartment rents for that much per month, considering the exterior is quite unassuming! Thanks for taking us along, Lyssy!

    1. It was a great tour and we loved the variety! The apartment is really unassuming but is 5,400 square feet and has a pool. You’d never know from the outside, but it was for sale for around 18m.

  5. I love food tours – we did a Greenwich Village one some years ago and it was a great introduction to the neighbourhood

    1. I do too, it’s a great way to learn about a new place! It’s also nice not having to worry about meals for a day when traveling.

    1. I don’t eat cupcakes often so they were extra delicious! It would be so weird having people stand outside my house all day!

  6. This is a great food tour of NYC that includes so much variety and the portions look perfect. We loved exploring London mews, they are such charming places. Washington’s mews look equally lovely.
