NYC Christmas Decor Master List 2023 – Part Two

Hi friends, welcome back to my NYC Christmas Master List Part Two and the final bit of Christmas decorations I’ll be blogging about. As I mentioned, this post includes decorations worth seeing, but not worthy of their own post. Part two includes everything above 14th Street starting at Madison Square Park. This was the first time I’ve seen this tree at night and it was simple, but stunning.

Grand Central is the most festive transportation hub in the city. This year the holiday market has returned so you can find last minute gifts on your way home.

There is also a transit museum in the back of Grand Central that has a free train display. The track wasn’t very big compared to what we see at the New York Botanical Garden, but you can’t beat free!

The MetLife Building.

The New York Public Library on Fifth Avenue put their tree back up this year and it was beautiful! I love that it is flocked and all the garland inside too. It’s a very elegant tree fitting for the library’s lobby.

Fox New’s patriotic tree kicks off the festiveness on Sixth Avenue.

1221 Sixth Avenue is a relatively new decoration and great photo op.

Radio City is always such a classic site with the giant ornaments, candy canes, and Radio City Music Hall. One day we’ll make it inside to see the Christmas Spectacular featuring the Rockettes.

The Mall at Columbus Circle has their hanging luminaries that change color while the city rushes by in the background.

Across the street the Columbus Circle Holiday Market is the smallest market in NYC, but has a good assortment of eats and gifts.

Tavern on the Green keeps their tree a bit hidden and only accessible to restaurant guests, but I was able to get a quick picture.

Central Park is a pretty scenic place to ice skate, but I always wonder why the rink is shaped oddly.

I always love the Bloomberg Tower trees.

Last but not least, I found some holiday cheer on the Upper East Side. Not as many decorate compared to Halloween time, but I loved the mix of extravagance and simplicity.

This one belongs to Kelly Ripa

I didn’t make it to Dyker Heights this year, but this neighborhood really goes all out for Christmas. These pictures are from my 2022 blog post.

The New York Botanical Garden’s holiday train show is another display we didn’t make it to (I dragged Jon to the Jonas Brothers concert instead) but it’s always a great spot to visit around the holidays.

That concludes my Master List of Christmas decorations in NYC! What was your favorite decoration in Part Two?

    1. So glad you are enjoying them! There are so many great decorations, they give me a good reason to go out every day.

  1. My favorites are any of the giant colorful decorations: wreaths, candy canes, ornaments, etc. My mind goes to wondering what equipment is used to install them and how they’re secured so they don’t fall or roll away. Also, seeing all of the Christmas trees I wondered if any of them are real besides the one in Rockefeller Plaza? Most seem artificial, probably used year after year.

    1. Those are good favorites! I think there are companies that specialize in Christmas decorations. Whenever I see them go up it’s a very professional and efficient operation. I know that Wall Street, the Seaport, Bryant Park, Madison Square, and Washington Square are all real and maybe all the others are fake. It seems if there is a tree lighting ceremony they are real.

    1. Dyker Heights are pretty amazing! I just wish they were closer, it takes about 50 minutes to get there by subway. Glad you enjoyed this list!

  2. After seeing all the photos from your festive posts, one thing is for sure – there’s nothing like New York at Christmas. I am still amazed by how beautiful your city is during the festive season. And I am with Allan on choosing Dyker Heights as the most spectacularly decorated area of the city. While each house’s attention to detail is amazing, nothing beats enjoying the deep sense of community one feels when walking around the beautifully lit streets. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

    1. You’re absolutely right, it is magical at Christmas! Dyker Heights is so nice too because it’s more of a neighborhood with yards and quiet streets, so it is a lot more peaceful to wander than in Manhattan. So glad you enjoyed this and hope you are having a great holiday season 🙂

  3. The Upper East Side and Dyker Heights were my favorite! It’s incredible how you saw SO many lights all over NYC in such a short amount of time (unless some were from a few years ago, like Dyker?). Wishing you a happy holidays! 🎄

    1. Those are good choices! A lot of decorations are pretty close together so it makes it easier to knock a lot out. I’ve definitely got my steps in for sure! Only Dyker Heights and the garden are from last year. I have a whole checklist haha. Hope you’re having a great holiday season!

  4. Thanks for the holiday tour of the amazing NYC decorations, Lyssy. The decorations that I liked most in this post are the tree in Madison Square Park and Radio City Music Hall. The tree seemed most natural and the RCMH ones were vey artsy. This year in my neighborhood the thing seems to be large inflatable decorations. Not sure I’m down with that.

    1. Glad you enjoyed this! Madison Square Park and Radio City are great choices. That tree is real at Madison Square Park, it is nice to have some pretty and simple decorations around the city in addition to all the artsy things. I am not a fan of the inflatables, or those laser lights that just look weird.

  5. Hey Lyssy, after another extended break from WordPress I find myself horribly behind on everyone’s posts. I have been looking through your various Christmas decorations posts and, as I say every year, nobody does Christmas vibe blogging quite like Lyssy in the City. I guess NYC can take its share of the praise, but still you present everything very well through your images. A belated Merry Christmas to you and Jon!

    1. I get it, it’s hard to keep up during the holidays and with real life taking priority! I appreciate that compliment!! It’s a lot of work, but a lot of joy to see it all 🎄 hope you guys had a great. Christmas!
