What’s Up: November 2021

Hi friends, welcome back! November was an awesome month for us. We decked our halls, enjoyed the fall foliage in Central Park and the High Line, had happy hour at a Santa Bar, and are now spending Thanksgiving in Michigan. This is my favorite time of the year and I’m so excited to make the most of it!

On to my post :)I’ve been linking up with my first and favorite blogger I ever read, Shay Shull, for my What’s Up posts. Each month I’m answering the following questions:

What I’m eating: my Foodie Friday post will be coming out next Friday, but one of my favorite things we ate this month was this pork dish from Beppe Trattoria. I ventured from my usual dishes and was blown away, who knew I could love pork so much ha!

One morning I went to get a cronut from Dominique Ansel to feature on my Instagram, but the line was too long so I walked to Posh Pop Bakery, but they were closed. I dejectedly kept walking and randomly stumbled upon The Doughnut Project and I think it was fate because this Coco Loco Donut was one of the prettiest doughnuts I’ve ever seen. It tasted just like a Caramel DeLite Samoa Girl Scout Cookie – enough said. I’m not a huge doughnut person, but this might just be my favorite!

What I’m reminiscing about: Monday we celebrated our six month anniversary! It seems like yesterday and forever ago at the same time, but we are loving married life 🙂

What I’m loving: the city is transforming into a Christmas wonderland and when we get back, all the decorations will be up! I walked in Central Park and along Fifth Avenue last week and spotted some decor already out for the season. Pictured: area across from The Plaza Hotel, Cartier, and the Rockefeller tree getting decorated. I’m not sure how I pictured them decorating the tree, but scaffolding didn’t cross my mind haha

What I’m Up to: we are in Michigan celebrating Thanksgiving with my family and I decorated their house for Christmas. This tree is from the airport, but a house tour will come soon 🙂

What I’m working on: planning all my Christmas content from my bucket list! We already went to a Santa Bar and decorated the apartment, so we’re off to a good start 🙂 I finished buying Jon’s Christmas presents a whole month early and I finalized our Christmas cards. I’m so excited to send them out, I spent an afternoon customizing them and they’re so festive!

What I’m excited about: I bought Billy Joel tickets for his concert at Madison Square Garden this summer and we are SO excited to see him!

My favorite post of the month: my Central Park fall foliage posts, I had so much fun walking through the park and taking in all the beautiful fall colors.

What I’m watching/reading: We are watching Seinfeld and are on season six now. We think it’s the perfect show to wind down to, but we are watching it so much that the characters are showing up in both mine and Jon’s dreams ha! Soon we will be watching all the Christmas movies. We watched the Hallmark movie Nantucket Noel and I was hoping it was filmed there partly, but it was filmed in Canada and none of the shots even look like Nantucket. I’m not a huge Hallmark movie fan, but it was entertaining and feel-good with an extra dose of cheesiness.

Books I read:

  • The Flatshare by Beth O’ Leary
  • Golden Girl by Elin Hildenbrand
  • November 9 by Colleen Hoover
  • The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
  • Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid
  • It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover – this was my favorite book of the month

What I’m doing this weekend: flying back to NYC and heading to Bryant Park to check out the Winter Village

What I’m looking forward to next month: all the CHRISTMAS things – we have a few weeks in the city and then we are spending some time in Michigan before heading to Atlanta for Christmas. Last year we drove from NYC > Michigan > Atlanta > NYC and I’m so relieved we are flying this year.

Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving!! What are you looking forward to in December?

  1. What a busy month Lyssy., The donut looks amazing and you sound like the perfect house guest, decorating your parent’s house. Happy 6 month anniversary. Cheers. Allan

    1. Very busy month indeed. I try to make it back every year to decorate and it makes my parents so happy 🙂 Thank you, Allan!

    1. Well I left my public accounting job to take a break and focus on my blog/insta, so that’s what I do during the day, and then if I need breaks from the screen I read, and then I get so into a book I can’t put it down haha and I love to read before bed to wind down. I also usually have a few books checked out at a time so I feel pressure to read them before they’re due even though NYC got rid of late fees haha. My library card gets lots of use 🙂

  2. Happy Thanksgiving!!! I’m looking forward to a girls trip in Dallas, seeing my favorite band Nathaniel Rateliff, and spending 3 days in a cabin in the snowy woods outside of Aspen at Christmas :-). Happy 6 month anniversary!!

    1. Happy Thanksgiving!!! Wow that sounds amazing!! A White Christmas in a cozy cabin is a dream 🙂 Thank you!! We are going to get dinner when we get back in the city to celebrate

      1. Fingers crossed! I don’t think I’ll get snow in GA 🙁 Hoping NYC gets another huge snowfall so I can go to Central Park and take pictures!

  3. New York must be so beautiful with the Christmas decorations 😉 I miss this city, well I’m not too far from it though. Your apartment looks lovely, I wish I have the same taste for decoration, but I don’t. However I have the same taste of food as you 😉 haha

    1. New York is so magical at Christmas! I can’t wait for all the decorations to be up. Thank you, I take Christmas decor very seriously 😂 haha so much good food, I have to be careful I don’t eat it all hahah

  4. You put me to shame with your reading – I’m off sick and have managed 1 book in 3 weeks, you’ve read loads and been working! I have The Midnight Library on my Christmas wishlist though. And that donut looks insane 🙂

    1. I actually quit my job to take a break and work on my blog/insta so I have extra time to read 😁the midnight library was good! I’ve become a reading machine now that I have a library card 😂

  5. I’m belatedly catching up on my What’s Up Wednesday posts. We were in NYC a few days after Christmas a few years ago and we loved it! I can’t wait to get back to the city — one of these days 🙂
