On Saturday Jon and I went to our first concert together. We saw Ed Sheeran play at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey and it was absolutely amazing! I would highly recommend that you see one of his shows if you like his songs, he’s so talented!
I wasn’t always a huge fan of Ed Sheeran, I liked his songs, but I was never wanting to see him in concert until I heard Perfect on the radio. I instantly fell in love with that song and listened to it twenty times a day, and that’s not even exaggerating. There are four versions of the song too, so I never get sick of it. There’s the original, acoustic (my personal favorite), a duet with Beyonce, and a duet with Andrea Boticelli that’s beautiful. My love for that song led me to start listening to more of his songs, and I liked them all. There isn’t a song I don’t like, he’s just such a great singer.
For my 25thbirthday, Jon had asked me what I wanted, and I couldn’t think of anything I wanted or needed. Then one day I was listening to an Ed Sheeran song on Youtube, and a link to buy tickets to his concert always popped up, and that gave me the idea to go to his concert when he came to the NY area. Now that I’m getting older, I’m starting to see the value in experiences and memories over materialistic things.
MetLife Stadium is actually in New Jersey, so we had to take the subway to Penn Station to start our journey there.
Once we got off the subway, we hopped on an Amtrack to NJ. It was jam packed with people going to the concert too. The train was so packed we had to stand in an exit area, but luckily, we only had to go one stop.
After getting off that train, we got on another train that dropped us off right in front of the stadium. The total trip was about $15 each way, per person which is a lot cheaper than an uber/taxi.
There weren’t huge lines to get into the stadium. This is where the Giants and Jets play football. I actually had no idea that it was an outdoor stadium, but luckily it was the perfect night to be outside!
We didn’t see the opening act, but Snow Patrol was the second act. They were really good, and I knew a few songs of theirs. Chasing Cars is my favorite. They said that Ed used to open up for them on tour, so they were excited to be on tour with him again. It’s funny how things come full circle.
I was so excited for Ed Sheeran to come on stage! He opened up with Castle on the Hill and he sounded absolutely amazing! He sounds the same live as on the radio, and he didn’t have a band, he played his own instruments.
There were some screaming girls behind us, like screaming at the top of their lungs, but other than that our seats were great. We could see the stage really well and didn’t have to stand up the whole concert (does saying this make me old??).
My favorite song was obviously Perfect, and it did not disappoint!! Some of my other favorites were Castle on the Hill, Nancy Mulligan, Galway Girl, Thinking Out Loud, and Photograph. The one song I wish was on the setlist was Super Market Flowers, that’s such a sweet and pretty song, but also very touching and sad. There were only a few songs I didn’t know, but those songs were great too!
I was so happy that I could hear Perfect and be there with Jon, it was such a perfect night and I’m so glad that we went.
That sounds so fun, Matt and I both love him too! What a fun night! ❤️
You should see him the next time he comes to MI!!
