Hi friends, welcome back! It’s hard to believe but it’s already been one month since we moved to Connecticut. We are still getting settled but I thought I’d share a little one-month update. The extra space and having our little yard are my favorite parts of the suburbs right now. Violet asks to go outside about one hundred times a day, so it’s nice being able to go right out the door, even if only for ten minutes. We play with our bubble machine a lot and she loves to chase and pop them. I’ve gotten used to driving again although running multiple errands with Violet is harder. She’s still getting used to shopping carts so after a while she just wants to be carried. I do miss being able to take the stroller and within a half hour walk hit the grocery store, Fedex, library, and Target. There’s also a limit to how many times she wants to go in and out of the carseat. I’ve got a few playdates for Violet scheduled this week so hopefully we will make some friends soon 🙂

Next on our list is getting a kitchen table, dresser, and some patio furniture. We also have to replace our TV because it broke in the move. I’ve enjoyed organizing a new place and have been frequenting the container store to make our closets look pretty. Jon built his gym downstairs and got a nice desk setup for when he works from home. My motto the last few weeks has been “It’ll get worse before it gets better” but I think we are safely on the other side of that. Slowly but surely, it’s coming along! I’ll have more pictures soon, but here are a few little updates:

Love:
- Having the extra space and the gym in the basement
- Easier to take Violet on adventures in the car
- No line for the swings at the park
- Grilling out
- Being able to go right outside
- Full size washer & dryer
Miss
- Easier to run more errands walking with the stroller
- The water in NYC tasted so much better!
- Our friends. Almost every evening we’d meet up for a walk, hang at the park, or do a little playdate
- The Whole Foods in Tribeca – we’ve been to three other Whole Foods in the area and they are all much smaller and more crowded. Didn’t know how good I had it!
- Not having stairs
To be continued!
What a great post Lyssy. There are pluses and minuses to every move, but I think being in a more peaceful place will only help as Violet grows. I am sure you will have this place whipped into shape in no time and in a few months it will seem like you have always been there. Besides, you can always go back to NYC for a visit. I moved 17 times in my first 17 years and I always felt out of place, then 5 times in the next 3 years. Finally, I settled down near where I am now and only moved 5 times in the last 50 years. My kids got what I never did…all their schooling in one town without moving house. Have a wonderful day. Allan
She’s a runner so it’s nice having a safe space for her! Jon’s parents are visiting soon so that’s been motivating us. Wow that is a lot of moving, that’s hard on a kid. We only moved one time growing up but it was only about a mile from where we lived.
Looks like you have a great space there, Lyssy. There’s always adjustment to be made but it looks full of potential xx
We have double our old space, but somehow we’ve already filled it up. Funny how that goes.
It looks lovely and I love Jon’s man cave! When we lived in central London, I enjoyed having everything on our doorstep. Now, I’m only 10 minutes walk from the beach, and my nearest croissant, but it’s not quite the same. So I do understand and you’ll soon make friends.
It is nice to not have Jon working in the living room! Violet seems happy not to have a bike in her room. Seems both our walks are more peaceful now, but sometimes the hustle and bustle is fun. We have a few playdates this week that seem promising. Violet’s best friend right now is her reflection in the wine fridge..
Lovely to see your new home taking shape Lyssy. Great to have a secluded garden and so much extra indoor space. I’m sure you’ll soon get organised and make some nice friends. Are you in a small town with a parade of shops and cafes within walking distance or do you need to drive to most places. I’d like to visit Connecticut sometime. My closest friend’s son married a girl from Hartford in April and they are now both working in London. Alice (my friend) has been out to stay with the family and loved it, especially as they have a holiday home on Nantucket where they spent a week.
It is so nice to have our little backyard. We’re in Greenwich and it’s a pretty big town. We are a drive from the main downtown with all the good shops and restaurants, but we can walk to a smaller downtown area that has a few shops, takeout restaurants, and a library. We are about an hour (without traffic) from New Haven. Oh wow a holiday home on Nantucket is the dream! We are heading there next week for a little family vacation.
Greenwich sounds beautiful Lyssy with its coastal location and inviting town centre. My friends inlaws actually live in West Hartford which I think is a bit more like Greenwich. Hope you have a wonderful family holiday in Nantucket. Alice’s photos were gorgeous and the beach house even had its own sauna!
So beautiful! I hope you guys will enjoy the new home ♥️
Thank you! We are loving it so far 🙂
Glad the move went well (minus the broken TV)! Seems like this is the season for moving, as my spouse and I also recently moved. Moving is a huge process, but I hope you’re settling in and enjoying the space! Wondering why having no stairs is a con? Enjoy your new life in Connecticut!
Hope your move went well too! I definitely underestimated moving and how much stuff we really had. What I meant by the stairs is that I miss living in a home with no stairs. Our laundry is in the basement it feels like a workout getting it all back up.
It sounds like you are settling in nicely!
It’s coming along!
Aww what a cute place! Looks like it’s coming together nicely 😊
It is cute! It’s hard to imagine not having all this space for so long ha.
Your place looks great already, it will feel like home soon.
Thank you! We only have one box left and it’s pictures to hang so we are in good shape.
This sunny garden is very tempting. It’s always a bit exciting to furnish and decorate a new home, especially with more space to finally realise some long-held decorating dreams. I remember thinking about setting up a painting studio in the den of a new flat, but it never actually happened.
It is a cute little backyard. It is exciting to have a fresh canvas in a new space. It is crazy we have double the space and have already filled it up. A painting studio sounds nice, maybe one day.
I LOVE her curly hair. No home is perfect but I am glad the peleton is not in Violet’s bedroom anymore. How long is Jon’s commute?
