Hi friends, welcome back! This post is extra special because we have some news to share…Baby Hammond is coming in December! We are very excited for this new chapter of our lives and have been taking it easy this year as we await her arrival. It’s finally starting to sink in that this is really happening and we’ve got a lot to do. Between the fall, holiday activities, and getting everything ready, I think the next few months are just going to fly by!

On to my post 🙂 I’ve been linking up with the first blogger I ever read, Shay Shull, for my What’s Up posts. Each month I’m answering the following questions:

What I’m eating: I had some delicious food-focused birthday celebrations! We celebrated the day before with my parents and my dad grilled some steak and then we went out for custard and I got my go-to heath flurry.

For my birthday lunch we went out in Ann Arbor to Sava’s with Jon’s sister and her husband and enjoyed the hummus, bang bang shrimp, burger, birria dip, and fish tacos.

We ended the day with some Buddy’s Pizza and Jon’s mom made my favorite confetti cake with vanilla frosting.

What I’m reminiscing about: our past European vacations. We missed going to Europe this summer, but it’ll always be there waiting for us.

What I’m loving: that the last quarter of the year is almost here! This summer heat was pretty brutal and we’ve had some teaser, crisp fall days this past week that got me excited for fall. I can’t wait to get out all my pumpkins when we get back from our time in Michigan. I thought about decorating before we left, but we needed work done on our unit and I didn’t want them thinking I was crazy

Favorite post of the month: Nantucket – Scenes from Sconset, it is such a beautiful area

What I’m Up to: working on my ever-growing to-do list
What I’m working on: keeping the apartment organized as we prepare for baby’s arrival.
What I’m excited about: we have our baby shower next weekend and I’m excited to celebrate with our friends and family. We didn’t get to have in-person showers for our wedding because of Covid, so we’re finally getting that experience of celebrating with people. Our moms and sisters have been hard at work to make the day special for us 😊
What I’m watching/reading: we’ve been on a documentary kick lately. We’ve enjoyed Receiver, Sprint, Hard Knocks, Simone Biles Rising, and America’s Sweethearts. I’m looking forward to Only Murders in the Building and the rest of Emily in Paris returning too
Books I read this month:
- Look on the Bright Side by Kristan Higgins
- The Seaside Sisters by Pamela Kelley
What I’m doing this weekend: we are flying to Michigan today and heading up north to Petosky, MI with my family for Labor Day Weekend. It will be nice to be out on the boat again and relax by the lake
What I’m looking forward to next month: our shower, fall, football, cooler weather, putting up my Halloween decorations, pumpkin waffles, cider mills, apple picking, and a visit from Jon’s parents.

What are you looking forward to in September?
Congratulations on baby Hammond! An exciting new adventure for you and Jon!
Thank you! We are very excited 🙂
Congratulations Lyssy. That is big news and I am sure that you and your parents are thrilled. Hard to believe our “new” grandchild will soon be 1. Despite the slower travel sched, looks like you kept bust. Where did August go? Happy Wednesday. Allan
Thank you! Oh yes they are over the moon. It is the first grandkid on both sides, so extra exciting for our families. Time sure flies! I think they say the days are long but the years are short when it comes to little kids.
Happy for you, but not surprised. You mentioned wanting to relocate to Connecticut in the future, do I sensed a change was in the cards. Happy for both of you and for your mom and dad.
Thank you! Long term plan is the suburbs but now Jon is thinking Connecticut is too long of a commute so we shall see.
Congratulations!! That is very exciting. It sounds like you had lots of lovely and delicious birthday celebrations.
Thank you! A very exciting new chapter for us 🙂 It was a delicious birthday for sure.
Congratulations!!!!
Thank you!!
Congratulations! It’s crazy how quickly they grow. Enjoy all the moments!

Thank you so much!!
Congratulations Lyssy that’s splendid news for you both as a new chapter in your lives is unfolding. You will love every minute of being parents and whatever their age, it will always be a treat to be part of a child’s life.
Thank you!! We are very excited to meet her and this next adventure of our lives 🙂
Congratulations, Lyssy & Jon! I read this post to the end but didn’t really pay much attention, because you had me at “Hammond”. What wonderful adventures await the three of you!
Thank you we are very excited for this next adventure! I did my kid a favor going from Wozniak to Hammond haha
What fabulous news – many congratulations to you both. Europe’d not going anywhere and it’ll be fun exploring as a trio. I too am looking forward to cooler days (and nights) and the run into the festive season,
Thank you! It will be fun to explore as a trio, maybe I can convince the grandparents to come help. It will be nice to have some cozy fall weather, hopefully it comes soon!
Roping in grandparents is absolutely necessary
Big congratulations to you and the baby! Very exciting to see this next chapter unfold for you and Jon. Summer has been hot this year, too, in LA, so I’m very much looking forward to cooler weather as we approach September. Have a fun Labor Day weekend!

An excellent selection of Europe’s highlights!
Congratulations Lyssy & Jon! What wonderful and exciting news. You will definitely be busier than ever but a good busy. Europe will wait for you, Jon, and your little.

Congratulations Lyssy and Jon! Wonderful news. All the food looks great! Hope you are enjoying your weekend!
Congratulations for your baby arrival. A great adventure for your family 😁.
Congratulations!! This is such amazing news and I’m very happy for the both of you! Good luck tackling your to-do list! We’ve had such an awfully cold summer here that I am not ready for fall yet, but I am excited to change the home decor!
Lyssy!!! Aw, congratulations to you and your family, this will be the biggest adventure of all 🙂
Such fantastic news, Lyssy! Congratulations on this blessed journey! May your baby be surrounded by love, joy, and the rich traditions of your family. Wishing you all the best as you get ready to welcome this new life into the world 🙂 Aiva xx
It’s okay to experience what is local to an area. Europe can wait. I have a feeling the new one is going to be an experienced traveler before they hit school age.
