What’s Up: June 2024

Hi friends, welcome back! I’m a week late with my What’s Up because Jon and I spent last week relaxing in Nantucket. We ate some delicious food including our daily ice cream, celebrated Jon’s birthday, hung at the beach, enjoyed the pleasant weather, and didn’t want to leave. The rest of the month was spent trying new recipes and restaurants per usual 🙂

On to my post 🙂 I’ve been linking up with the first blogger I ever read, Shay Shull, for my What’s Up posts. Each month I’m answering the following questions:

What I’m eating: I saw this recipe on YouTube for Vietnamese American Garlic Noodles and it was delicious! Don’t be alarmed by the 20 cloves of garlic for 4 servings (we halved the recipe), you won’t be scaring the vampires for miles away. We added shrimp to it and there was not one bite left. We’ll definitely make this again!

What I’m reminiscing about: our first trip to Nantucket back in July 2021 – it feels like forever ago although I don’t miss that tragic tan line on my shins…

What I’m loving: in between the heatwaves we’ve had some really nice days and I love opening the windows and getting a nice breeze

Favorite post of the month: celebrating our third anniversary

What I’m Up to: not a whole lot, we don’t have any crazy big plans this summer so we’ve just been taking it easy

What I’m working on: writing about our time in Nantucket. I’m excited to finally have multiple things to blog about again!

What I’m excited about: the Olympics! I’m happy the time difference is only 6 hours so I can watch most of the events live

What I’m watching/reading: The Bear, Bridgerton, Owning Manhattan, Curb Your Enthusiasm, golf, and the Olympic trials

Books I read this month:

  • The Summer We Started Over by Nancy Thayer
  • Summers at the Saint by Mary Kay Andrews

What I’m doing this weekend: probably hanging out with our friends

What I’m looking forward to next month: watching the Olympics & going on another food tour

What are you looking forward to in July?

  1. Busy, busy busy. Your time in Nantucket looks wonderful Lyssy. Can’t wait to hear all about it. Glad you are getting some reprieve from the heat. We still have not really had much heat here yet, in fact, it is pouring rain this morning, complete with thunder and lightning. It is supposed to hit 32C here next week. Things will really get growing then. Happy Wednesday. Allan

    1. It was a nice break from the busy city, although it took about 10 hours to get home with all the traffic. We haven’t had many good summer storms yet, but I’m surprised we haven’t had any forest fires. I figured it was gonna be worse than last year. The rain must be helping.

  2. I agree with you about the Olympics, Lyssy. Other than the British Open I’m not seeing any other sports to look forward to this month, so I have no excuse not to follow many of the events. To your point, it’s great to be within a reasonable amount of time zones of Paris. It seems that hasn’t been the case for the last several Games.

    1. I am looking forward to the British Open too, always some tough golf. I think the last three were in South Korea, Japan, and China, not great for the time differences. Next is Italy and then LA so not too bad either unless finals are at midnight EST.

  3. Sounds like a tranquil and much-needed visit to Nantucket! Never been, but I’ve heard it’s gorgeous. Vietnamese garlic noodles sound delicious: honestly, I think I’d need more than 20 garlic cloves, as I do love garlic, haha! Have a wonderful summer ahead; I’ll also tune into some of the Olympics, too!

    1. Nantucket is stunning and the perfect place for some true r&r. You’d especially love the recipe then! It kind of tasted more creamy than super garlicky so you could defiantly add more. Hope you have a great summer ahead and go USA!

  4. It sounds like you had a wonderful time in Nantucket! I made the mistake of reading a few books in a row set there and now I want to go back to Nantucket myself. I was loving the profusion of hydrangeas everywhere near the shore this year; they seem extra bright and colorful.

    1. So many good summer books are set there! I actually saw Elin Hilderbrand in a cafe. I wouldn’t have recognized her out but the ladies next to me did and ran up to her for a pic. The hydrangeas are so pretty this year although the ones in the park by us didn’t fare too well during the heat wave.

  5. This is the first time I’ve read that someone is looking forward to the Olympic Games. In Paris we’re too busy with elections and holidays to pay attention to this costly affair 🙂

    1. I think the world is crazy right now so I’m looking forward to something positive to watch on tv 🙂

      1. I live too close not to see the disadvantages first. I’m not even sure I’ll be able to get home – my car isn’t allowed there at the moment. Sometimes we have the feeling that the Games are being organised against us. But once they start, maybe interest will grow.
        Enjoy your stay in France!

      2. I completely understand that, it was exactly the same for us in London in 2012. I hope it doesn’t disadvantage locals too badly and you can enjoy some of it 😊

      1. That’s amazing!! What an event to get tickets too. I am bummed she’s not doing more races, she’s just so fast!

  6. A fun month Lyssy. Time slips by all too quickly. Hopefully I’ll get to Nantucket one day as it looks lovely and I’ll look forward to reading your upcoming posts about it too. Have a great weekend.

    1. The year always does seem to fly by once we’ve made it through the winter. You’d love Nantucket, hopefully you make it there soon 🙂

    1. Thank you <3 you'd love Nantucket and it's usually cooler so less chance or burning to a crisp in the Summer haha
