Hi friends, welcome back! I always love seeing the famous Macy’s on 34th Street holiday windows and this year’s theme is “Give Love”. The windows feature the adorable reindeer Tiptoe as she partakes in her favorite holiday activities with her woodland friends. I think Macy’s always has the cutest holiday windows, and I love that they tell such a wholesome story of the holidays and friendship. Macy’s also made some of their windows interactive this year. Half of the windows have a button you can press to have your picture taken, start some Christmas carols, or play a game. The windows were officially unveiled on November 16th and will be up until New Year’s Day. They can be seen in Herald Square between 34th and 35th Street.

Each window has a little poem that goes along with the scene and I’ve included it before each picture. “Oh, the joy of the season is here with lights and garland, so dear. The trees were dressed In their finest glow as Tiptoe prepared for this year’s Holiday Show.”

“A candy carousel? What a marvelous surprise! Tiptoe couldn’t believe her eyes. There were candy canes and gobstoppers galore, which made her wonder what else Santa had in store.” This window is my favorite.

“Her nose grew long, while her smile grew wide. What was this, Tiptoe thought, some kind of funhouse ride? No, they were the shiniest ornaments you ever did see and her silly reflection made her laugh with glee.”

“The music swirled a kaleidoscope of sound, a symphony of carols all around. Trumpets and horns, they filled the air, as Tiptoe danced without a single care.”

“Nutcrackers marched in a perfect line. Dressed in red and gold, their uniforms did shine. A spectacular stage for a festive night, Tiptoe swirled and twirled, what a wonderful sight.”

“The countdown to celebration has begun, a time of joy, a time of fun. Let’s sing a song of holiday cheer, best wishes to all and a Happy New Year!”

I went on opening day and it was pretty busy, people were excited for the holiday season to commence. I got interviewed by a local radio station but I was so nervous I forgot to remember which one. Hope I said something intelligent and festive!

The other side of Macy’s, 34th Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenue, has some cute windows too. I also love all the garland and wreaths. This side is probably familiar to you if you watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Inside, Macy’s adds lots of sparkle and cheer to their nine floors. Every year Jon and I pick out an ornament and this year we were very disappointed by the selection. We tried to find a cute NYC themed one with the year and this is what they were offering… We couldn’t believe it!

This is the one we ended up with.

I thought the windows were cute, but I prefer the 2022 windows because they were more detailed. If you want to see more of Tiptoes’ adventures you can see her learning to fly in 2021 here, and celebrating Christmas with her friends in 2022 here. What do you think of Macy’s holiday windows this year?
It’s all so very beautiful! It’s so easy to see why so many Christmas movie are set in NYC!
It all really does feel like being in a Christmas movie whenever I go outside!
It’s so bright and festive! You’re right, though, those ornaments are a big bummer.
Macy’s does a great job with the decor, but the ornaments leave a lot to be desired.
I can see now why Macy’s famed window displays at their Herald Square flagship store are anticipated every year – they are stunning and certainly spreading holiday cheer.
They really do bring joy to everyone that walks by, it’s a fun tradition for the city!
I love the Macy’s Magic Lyssy. Hard to believe that every department store around North America used to do this. Now there are so few department stores left, but Macy’s still does it best. Happy Wednesday. Allan
It is sad seeing department stores and malls across the country close or become run down. I am glad the department stores in NYC are still mostly hanging around. Lord and Taylor was a casualty.
We have Macy’s here in California, but I always associated them as just retail stores, rather than as sites for such opulent Christmas decorations; looks like the one in NYC goes all out! Very cute decor, and a great way to bring in the holiday season. 🙂
There are a handful of Macy’s around the country that still decorate, it might be the SF one in CA. The NYC one really puts on a great display every year and I am so happy they keep the tradition.
So very festive
They do a great job!
Agreed
Macy’s (in Manhattan ANYWAY) is upholding the tradition beautifully.
Yes, most Macys around the country have really gone down in quality. It is sad to see
Gorgeous Lyssy. A week or so ago when I was in Melbourne the Christmas windows had just been revealed at Myers Department Store which featured ‘Bluey’ really putting us in the mood for the festive period.
Aww I bet the display was so adorable! It is fun seeing the holiday cheer around the world.
Wow! what insane decorations!
They really do a great job!
It’s nice they’re not using the TipToe windows to promote products. I especially like the bold colors because they make the building look striking even when seen from a distance. I’m shocked to hear you couldn’t find a decent tree ornament. I’d think they’d make a fortune if they produced quality ornaments, especially those celebrating New York City itself.
I am glad they aren’t exploiting Tiptoe too. You’re right the bold colors do make the storefront look great from afar. They had tons of ornaments, but the NYC related selection was really lacking. We’ve been going for 5 years I think and this has never happened.
Amazing window displays at Macy’s! They are so elaborate and beautiful!!!
The windows are cheerful and full of colour, but it’s true that the link with Christmas isn’t obvious. Children often enjoy simple concepts and parents enjoy their children’s joy. Perhaps it’s not necessary to overcomplicate the concept.
Beautiful. I overheard someone on the train the other day, telling someone that New York is really stunning at Christmas – your photographs are testament to that 💫
Wow! They really go all out!
What a dazzling display for the holidays. How fun to be interviewed by a local radio station!
Bit out of sinc here with responses but I love it that the store goes to so much effort for the season…
Macy’s holiday windows are a beloved tradition in New York City. They always manage to capture the essence of the season and bring joy to people of all ages. This year’s display is no exception.
