What’s Up: September 2023

Hi friends, welcome back! We are officially done with our crazy busy summer! We kicked off September dancing the night away at Jon’s sister’s wedding in Atlanta. After we got back I decorated the apartment for fall even though it was 90 degrees outside. We didn’t have many plans this month so it was nice to enjoy some lazy weekends at home. This past weekend was one of those perfect, cozy fall weekends to stay inside. Tropical Storm Ophelia caused four straight days of rain and it was finally cool enough to break out my fuzzy socks. The sun is finally back out and it is feeling like a crisp fall day. I’m ready for you October!

On to my post 🙂 I’ve been linking up with the first blogger I ever read, Shay Shull, for my What’s Up posts. Each month I’m answering the following questions:

What I’m eating: I’ll be sharing my NYC foodie Friday next week. I saw this  Greek Chicken Souvlaki Wrap recipe on Instagram and knew we had to make it. It was delicious! I made the chicken on our grill pan while Jon made the pitas and tzatziki from scratch. If you like Greek food this recipe was great, you could also just use the marinade part of the recipe for flavorful chicken.

What I’m reminiscing about: three years ago I had the random idea to start a food Instagram. We weren’t going out at the time because of Covid, but I had such a backlog of pictures that I could post so I figured why not! Three years later I’ve made so many friends because of that account and have had the opportunity to dine at so many restaurants throughout NYC.

What I’m loving: sitting on my couch curled up in a blanket with my book, football on in the background, and all my Halloween decorations lit up

Favorite post of the month: our tour of the Vatican. This tour made such a difference in our Vatican experience and we loved seeing all of the museum’s treasures.

What I’m Up to: I’ve been a reading machine! I’ve been trying to replace scrolling on Instagram with reading and it works some of the time.

What I’m working on: updating the apartment. It’s time to replace our mattress and we finally have a bedroom big enough to upgrade to a king-sized bed, so we will need all the bedding, mattresses, bed frame, etc. We also have been talking about getting a rug for the bedroom and living room for months. Lots of interior design decision fatigue over here!

What I’m excited about: all the fall and Halloween things! If you need some inspiration, I’ve got you covered with my Halloween Bucket List

What I’m watching/reading: we are loving Only Murders in the Building, Virgin River, Frasier, and lots of football.

Books I read this month:

  • For the Love of Friends by Sara Goodman Confino
  • The Breakaways by Jennifer Weiner
  • You’ve Been Volunteered by Laurie Gelman
  • Reign by Katharine Mcgee
  • The Kiss Curse by Erin Sterling

What I’m doing this weekend: we’re going out to dinner with our friends at the recently reopened Delmonico’s and testing out mattresses

What I’m looking forward to next month: seeing the Great Jack O Lantern Blaze, the Halloween decorations around the city, and my parents are visiting!

What are you looking forward to next month?

  1. You and Jon look so elegant at the wedding. You definitely had a bus September, as have we, but things will slow down once the weather changes. Great food shots. We are still trying out new things and have been making kefta kebabs. Our fall colours have been around for a couple of weeks and leaves are now thinning. Still we have to get out and enjoy the weather before all is covered in white. Enjoy your day Lyssy. Allan

    1. Thank you! We have no travel plans until November so we’re looking forward to less busy times. Kefta kebabs sound delicious. I wish we had a grill, I think meats typically taste better grilled, but our grill pan did pretty good. I think our colors will turn the end of October. Enjoy the leaves and nice weather while you can 🙂

  2. Yes! I broke out my fuzzy socks this weekend too. It was definitely a cozy, around the house kind of weekend with all the rain. You both look so lovely for the wedding and of course all the food looks delicious.

    1. I enjoyed the rain the first few days, but after that it seemed like it would never leave. Thank you, it was fun getting all dolled up for the wedding 🙂

    1. I hope so! They were saying with all the rain we had this year the leaves might not be as colorful, but we shall see.

  3. Sounds like a more wind-down kind of month, as the weather gets chillier and the home cozier. Being a foodie myself, I enjoy your food IG and love seeing what there is to eat in NYC! Sweater weather is just around the corner, and happy fall!

    1. It was nice to have a cozy month with no busy plans, we needed it! Thank you! There is so much to eat in NYC and so much variety. Happy fall!

  4. Beautiful photo of you two “right down the street” in Atlanta (okay, three hours to the west). October will be college football every Saturday and a whole lot of leaves falling in between. Until those leaves fall, we get to enjoy the break between mowing and raking. The humidity backed off two weeks ago so the weather is officially glorious. Already have a fall festival on the calendar next Saturday and candy corn on a dish on the counter. Love this time of year!
