NYC Foodie Friday: February 2023

Hi friends, welcome back to another edition of my monthly series showcasing all my delicious eats during the month. As you know, one of my favorite parts of living in NYC is the abundance of incredible food, and I’ve been on a mission to try all the best places and share my finds along the way. Disclaimer: these posts will cause hunger 🙂 If you want to stay up to date on all my foodie finds, you can follow my food Instagram here.

As usual, I went to Dominique Ansel to grab the monthly Cronut flavor of Strawberry Jam & Olive Oil Ganache. This one was delicious and had more of a safe, subtle flavor. It was really good, but didn’t blow me away. It was pretty simple and I thought they should keep this flavor year-round for people to try if they’ve never had a Cronut before.

My ordering so far of most to least favorite: Salted Caramel Pretzel, Cherry Jam & Cappuccino Ganache, Lychee Ganache & Mascarpone Ganache, Pumpkin Pie & Brown Sugar Ganache, Blueberry & Sweet Corn, Ube Ganache & Thai Coconut Ganache Cronut, Strawberry & Olive Oil, Early Grey & Okinawa black Sugar, Mango Jam & Milk Chocolate Ganache, Strawberry Poppyseed & Buttermilk, Honey Peach Jam & Graham Cracker Ganache, Almond and Fig, Passionfruit & Vanilla, Peanut Butter & Banana, Caramel Flan & Orange Marmalade, Green Apple Butterscotch, and Black Truffle & Caramel Popcorn Cronut.

We LOVED our Valentine’s meal at da Toscano and I will be recommending this spot to people visiting the city looking for upscale Italian.

Places I was invited to:

And Sons recently started serving brunch with a live jazz band and it was incredible! They offer a three-course brunch starting with an egg soufflé for two, and then you can pick your main and dessert. I went with the Breakfast Prime Burger and Jon picked the Steak Benedict. For dessert we had churro bites with mascarpone and it was heavenly! We were both in a sugar coma after this dessert, but it was worth it!

I worked with The Halal Guys to make a Superbowl spread, I was pretty proud of my video.

I checked out M’s Tavern with some friends and this is a great sports bar, but it also has delicious food. We got to try out some of the new menu items and this burger was the most photogenic burger I’ve ever seen!

I was invited to a brunch event at Serafina and enjoyed meeting other foodies and getting to try more of the menu. We ordered the Avocado Toast, French Toast, Spicy Penne Alla Vodka, Tagliolini Carbonara, Farfalle Al Limoncello, Di Sofia Salad, Brussels Sprout Salad, and Truffle Fries.

Pizza & Shakes, my two favorite foods, is a make your own pizza shop near Central Park. You can pick unlimited toppings or one from the menu. I am indecisive so I went with the Columbus Circle with tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, bacon, and hot honey. It was delicious! They also have gelato you can enjoy by itself or made into a shake. This would be a great spot to grab a pizza for a picnic in the park!

Chocolate Dip is a decadent dessert shop specializing in crepes, waffles, and chocolate dipped treats. It’s hard to pick because everything looks so good, but we decided on a Biscoff Cookie Butter Crepe and Original Waffle. The crepe was our favorite because we love those Biscoff cookies. If only Delta served this crepe on flights!

12 Chairs is a popular Isreali café that I joined some friends for dinner at. We shared some hummus, labneh, baba ganush, falafel & hummus, and falafel & tahini. We also shared the schnitzel salad and Arayes (grilled pita filled with minced lamb) and Shipudim (grilled chicken skewers). I recommend ordering a bunch and sharing so you can try it all. I’ll have to come back and bring Jon one day!

What caught your eye this month?

  1. Lots of good eating as usual Lyssy. Not a fan of over easy fired eggs on a burger. This is a very Kiwi thing to do, except they add a slice of beetroot and a slice of pineapple…..and yes I tried that just to say I did. The pizzas look to die for as does the Mediterranean food. Lots of variety, but still plenty of dessert…my favourite course. Thanks for sharing Lyssy. Allan

    1. I don’t think I’d like beetroot or pineapple on a burger. Pizza is always a favorite of mine, and the Mediterranean food was delicious! I don’t eat it enough. Dessert is my favorite course too 🙂

  2. As usual, I’m impressed at how many restaurants you visited in a very short month. I might start out hungry at the beginning of your posts, but by the end I’m usually full just thinking about eating all that food!

    1. It was a food heavy month for sure! I need a break haha. These posts are very hunger inducing!!

    1. I prefer medium, it might have been the lighting/saturation of the picture. My mom always made my dad put burgers on longer if there was any hint of pink.

  3. I would love to stop by ’12 Chairs’ – Middle Eastern dishes offer some of the world’s most vibrant, fragrant, and delicious tastes, and I wouldn’t be able to refuse a freshly made falafel. Thanks for sharing and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

    1. That was such a delicious meal! I’m definitely going back to 12 Chairs again. I love Middle Eastern dishes, but don’t eat them enough. Have a great week! 🙂

  4. The Spicy Penne alla Vodka caught my attention because I had the very same dish this weekend in Charlotte. Delicious! The cronut caught my eye because, well, it seems to be a part of the most recent trend if you’ve read about Starbucks’ latest spin on coffee drinks.
