Signs of Spring in Lower Manhattan – 2024

Hi friends, welcome back! I’m loving all the spring flowers and I noticed all the beautiful blooms popping up in Lower Manhattan. I recently posted A Stroll Around my Neighborhood, and about six weeks later it already looks so different. Last time I showed Zucotti Park there were still Christmas lights up on the trees, but now it’s filled with colorful tulips.

I planned to see the tulips at Bowling Green Park, but they hadn’t bloomed yet, so I continued south to Battery Park. This was sadly a mistake and I think I’m giving up on it for the next six months. There’s so much construction that it’s not fun to walk through anymore and the shore is boarded up so you can’t see the Statue of Liberty. Also at the two entrances to the park there are so many scalpers trying to sell Statue of Liberty tickets for various tour companies. What was even crazier was the line for the official Statue of Liberty ferry. There must’ve been at least 300 people in line! So unless you’re visiting Lady Liberty, I’d avoid Battery Park for the forseeable future. (Note: If you’re visiting the Statue of Liberty, be mindful of where you buy your tickets. Per the NPS website: “Statue City Cruises is the ONLY ferry service authorized by the National Park Service for ticket sales and transportation to Liberty and Ellis Islands. Numerous third-party vendors sell tickets at higher prices or for boats that do not land at the islands.”)

After the chaos of Battery Park, I enjoyed a peaceful stroll along the Hudson River.

Pumphouse Park at Brookfield Place is my favorite spot in the spring and summer. I was a little early for the tulips, but I just love all the colors.

This was a few days later once they’d opened. In the summer this park will be filled with hydrangeas.

More flowers along the Hudson River and Rockefeller Park. Soon the lawn will be covered with picnic blankets.

Hope you enjoyed the spring blooms around Lower Manhattan!
