Hi friends, welcome back! I’m making progress on my spring bucket list and my latest activity to check off is the Macy’s 49th Annual Flower Show. The display features scents from Christian Dior and will be up from March 24th – April 7th at the Herald Square location. The flower show is free and accessible during normal store hours.
My favorite part of any Macy’s seasonal display is always the windows on the Broadway entrance. I love all the colors and how a few of the windows featured moving elements this year like the hummingbirds getting pollen from the flowers.
Stepping inside the store you will be greeted by even more flowers along with some potential big crowds. I went a few minutes after opening to try and avoid the crowds as much as possible.
The main floor of the handbag and perfume department features some photo ops and fun displays.
This display reminded me a bit of Little Shop of Horrors.
The balcony level presents an immersive garden featuring some history of the Miss Dior perfume. It was named after Christian Dior’s sister Catherine who shared his love of florals.
I especially loved this flower truck, so cute!
Macy’s created a flower show gift shop and I actually thought the items for sale were cute and not tacky.
As I was making my way back to the subway, I noticed a few more festive displays in the windows on 34thstreet.
I loved viewing this year’s flower show and I’m glad Macy’s continues the tradition! I thought it was cute and cheery, and I thought they put a good effort into this years display. Oh, to be a decorator in Macy’s. This must be one of the best jobs. I have been in this store and it was pretty even without the flower show. Thanks for this wonderful post Lyssy. Allan
That would be a fun job! I always think my true calling is to be a Hallmark movie set designer. It is a beautiful department store!

It’s all so beautiful and bold and colorful! I used to decorate windows for the local consignment shop I worked for… with zero budget it was fun to get creative but never did I come up with anything even remotely close to these!!
That sounds so fun and a great way to be creative! I am sure their budget was in the millions.

I choose the elegant single roses under glass (Beauty and the Beast come to mind). I was going to question the sense of actually shopping during the chaos of the Show, but I’m guessing Macy’s wouldn’t go to all this trouble if profits weren’t boosted at the same time. Macy’s should publish a book on the history of the window displays (or maybe they already have?) It would be interesting to see the evolution over so many years.
That reminded me of Beauty and the Beast too. I think if anything they make up money from tourists wanting to buy something while they’re there, although the store is always busy. That is a good idea, I would enjoy seeing the different displays. Same with the Christmas windows.
This is truly stunning! I am so glad you shared this. I’m not sure if I had forgotten about this or if I missed that Macy’s did this. After this is over, do they usually just display clothing in the windows until Christmas time?
That is a good question, I typically only go by this Macys for the flower show or at Christmas. My guess is that it is just clothing.
