Bergdorf & Bloomingdales Holiday Windows 2023

Hi friends, welcome back! Every year NYC’s famous department stores go all out on their holiday windows, and I’m always so excited to see what they come up with. I’ll start this post with Bloomingdales because they’re right above the subway I take to get uptown. This year, Bloomingdales has partnered with Warner Bros. Pictures for their “Best Holiday Ever” theme featuring scenes inspired by the new Wonka movie. Per their press release, the windows are “inspired by the look, feel and magic of Wonka. The wonder of the holidays will come to life with colorful, bright windows full of sparkle and oversized candies and chocolates, inspired by the film”. I would say the windows accurately reflect the theme.

The windows were unveiled November 16th at the flagship location on 59th and Lexington. Throughout the season Bloomingdales will be providing in-store events and Wonka inspired gifts to make holiday shopping the best ever. I always find their mannequins to be a little creepy looking, but all the candy in the background really speaks to me. I did my best to caption each picture with what is written on the glass, some were a little tricky to read.

“This holiday season treat yourself to the sweet delight of pure imagination! Join Wonka x Bloomindales as we introduce you to chocolates and candies that will stir the senses and open your mind to a world of possibilities! Come take a bite and enter a world where dreams come true. Experience inventive confections that after the taste, magical things happen to you”

“Hoverchoc Delayed-Action. Who wants a chocolate that makes you fly?! Defy the laws of gravity and hover!”

“Hair Repair Éclair. Just one delectable taste and grow magical hair.”

“Pure Imagination. The greatest candy shop the world has ever seen.”

“You can’t get a shop without selling chocolate and you can’t sell chocolate without a shop!”

“Every good thing in this world starts with a dream. Hold on to yours.”

Three avenues over on 59th and Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman’s holiday windows are always some of my favorites. I especially love how much detail and creativity goes into each window. The windows were also unveiled on November 16th and the theme this year is “Isn’t it Brilliant”.

This one’s theme is “Many Hands Make Light Work”

This one is titled “Star Power”

“In the Limelight”

Per the press release: “Of the seven windows, each is a unique take on the theme with a special storytelling narrative. For example, “First Light” depicts a collection of domestic animals covered in mirror mosaic with monumental roosters beckoning the sunrise.”

“On the other end of Fifth Avenue is “The Best and Brightest,” a celebration of knowledge and learning with vintage-inspired signs, flashing lights and a neon light bulb illuminating the big idea.”

“On 58th Street, onlookers can see “Tripping the Light Fantastic,” a high-drama display featuring mosaic-mirrored Pegasi set with neon-outlined wings in a Venetian-mirrored salon.”

Across the street the Bergdorf men’s store is the same theme but less glam and more yeti. I couldn’t find anything about these windows online, but they were fun to see the contrast from the fabulous windows across the street.

What do you think about all these windows?

  1. The Bergdorf Goodman windows are spectacular. I’d want to stand in front of them for awhile just to soak up all the details. The Bloomingdale’s windows, not so much. The oversized candy window didn’t really work for me, and the rest of them pale in comparison to BG. I do wonder if they have a pop-up candy shop inside? (if not, big mistake). Also, have you ever been to the window unveilings? I’m sure those moments are super crowded but full of anticipation.

    1. Bergdorfs really has a lot going on, and they’re so multidimensional. Bloomingdales always seem to be my least favorite of all the department stores. I am betting they do have a popup candy store, they said they would have Wonka inspired gifts inside. I have not been to any unveilings but I know they always have performances and it’s a pretty big event. Maybe one year!

  2. Wow, just wow Lyssy. I think if I lived in NYC, it would be hard to stay indoors this time of year with all these windows on display. Happy Thursday. Allan

    1. That is very true! There are some days I don’t go outside, but during Christmas season I always have a reason to leave my apartment.

  3. It’s quite obvious that New York’s spectacular Christmas window displays make holiday shopping in the city extra fun and festive. These ornate holiday windows decked out with hundreds of Christmas lights and more winter wonderland decor are so impressive, that they can be reason enough to stroll through midtown. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

    1. You’re right, I usually avoid midtown and Fifth Avenue, but during Christmas time I am willing to put up with the crowds to see the fabulous display. The windows are so fun to stroll by and take in.

  4. BG’s windows are very artistic and interesting. Unlike other displays you’ve shown, I didn’t find them to be very warm and Christmassy. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

    1. Their windows always seem to be very artistic, but not very traditionally Christmas themed. I guess that is on brand with a high end department store compared to Macys.

  5. Whereas with Macy’s cute display, Bloomingdales’ is more artsy and experimental, very apropos for the Wonka theme. Very whimsical and it offers a different perspective on the holiday season!

    1. It is interesting how different all the department store windows are. I thought it they nailed the Wonka theme in their own way.

  6. These windows are so well decorated, with so much money. It’s not easy to find the Christmas theme, but I suppose everyone has to make a little effort.
