NYC Foodie Friday: October 2022

Hi friends, welcome back to another edition of my monthly series showcasing all my delicious eats during the month. As you know, one of my favorite parts of living in NYC is the abundance of incredible food, and I’ve been on a mission to try all the best places and share my finds along the way. Disclaimer: these posts will cause hunger 🙂 If you want to stay up to date on all my foodie finds, you can follow my food Instagram here.

As usual, I went to Dominique Ansel to grab the monthly cronut flavor of Cherry Jam & Cappuccino Ganache. This one was amazing and reminded me of eating a chocolate covered espresso bean with a hint of cherry at the end.

My ordering so far of most to least favorite: Salted Caramel Pretzel, Cherry Jam & Cappuccino Ganache, Lychee Ganache & Mascarpone Ganache, Blueberry & Sweet Corn, Ube Ganache & Thai Coconut Ganache Cronut, Early Grey & Okinawa black Sugar, Mango Jam & Milk Chocolate Ganache, Strawberry Poppyseed & Buttermilk, Honey Peach Jam & Graham Cracker Ganache, Almond and Fig, Passionfruit & Vanilla, Caramel Flan & Orange Marmalade, Green Apple Butterscotch, and Black Truffle & Caramel Popcorn Cronut.

I celebrated the two-year anniversary of my food Instagram with Molly’s Cupcakes. I got a Cake Batter (vanilla confetti cake, raw cake batter, vanilla buttercream, rainbow sprinkles) and Cookie Monster (vanilla chocolate chip cake, raw cookie dough center, buttercream, mini chocolate chip cookie) cupcake. They were delicious and the perfect treat to celebrate!

I had a blast making this candy board with Niagara Chocolates and Trader Joe’s fall goodies.

This S’mores Bar from Poshpop was the perfect fall treat!

Between the move and being sick, we got more takeout than usual. Milkshakes from Five Guys to soothe our throats, pizza to celebrate being able to eat acidic food again, and sushi to break in the new apartment!

Places I was invited to:

The Doughnut Project collaborated with The Supplant Company to create a Chocolate Chip Pancake Doughnut – maple old fashioned cake doughnut with Supplant chocolate chips, maple glaze and chocolate drizzle. Supplant is a company that creates upcycled sugar from fiber that cooks, bakes, and caramelizes just like traditional sugar – with fewer calories, a lower blood sugar response, and the benefits of a prebiotic. I’d never heard of such a thing, but it tasted just like a normal, delicious donut!

And Sons which I’ve previously posted about here invited me to their new location in the West Village. They have a speakeasy upstairs library bar that opens into the most beautiful dining room. We absolutely loved the ambiance and the delicious food. We shared the incredibly filling steak dinner complete with Pigs in a Blanket for an appetizer, 18oz NY Strip Steak, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Creamed Spinach, and Carbonara Mac and Cheese. This spot is perfect for a date night!

I received these beautiful cupcakes from Cakie Bakie, a cupcake maker just starting out in NYC. If you’re local these would be perfect for an event like a shower/wedding.

Whitmans is a cool burger spot with two locations in NYC and one in Miami. It’s a very chill restaurant with a great selection of burgers, sandwiches, salads, and large drink menu. I ordered the Juicy Lucy (beef short rib blend patty stuffed with pimento cheese) and juicy was an understatement! The mess was worth it because it was delicious! My friend enjoyed the Grilled Chicken Club with grilled free-range chicken breast and applewood smoked bacon. Highly recommend the sweet potato fries too.

Last but certainly not least, Jon and I had a delicious meal at Utsav near Times Square and Rockefeller Center (good spot to escape the crowds after seeing the Christmas tree). This Indian restaurant offers traditional Indian dishes, but they also have an Indo-Chinese menu that we ordered from. This combination of flavors was excellent and we loved each dish we tried. For appetizers we had the Szechuan Chicken and Salt & Pepper Fish.

We shared the Hot Garlic Prawn, Chilli Lamb, Chicken Chopsuey, and Szechuan Rice for our entrees. Each dish had such a unique and authentic flavor, but they all complemented each other so well. Of the entrees my favorites were the Chilli Lamb and Chicken Chopsuey. This spot is great for a date night, business dinner/lunch, or toe come with a family. I’d recommend ordering family style here so you can try more of the flavorful menu!

  1. Too many items caught my eye for a brief comment so I’ll just say, give me the cronut (debuting at #2 on Lyssy’s list – wow!) and the S’mores Bar (decadent!) and send me off to a sugar coma. Also, I love how your diamond ring does a bit of a photo-bomb from under the Chocolate Chip Pancake Doughnut.

    1. You’re right #2 on the list is very impressive! I’ve eaten so many flavors it’s hard to remember a lot of them. A little sparkle is always a good photo-bomb 🙂

    1. I try to only schedule eating out two times a week at the most, otherwise I’d need to size up on all my clothes.

    1. Their sugar is very interesting! A good way to help the environment while enjoying sweets 🙂

  2. How much exercise do you guys have to do to stop yourself from ballooning? It’s hard to even handpick the highlights of this culinary treasure chest. Somehow, it is your candy board that has charmed me the most. Perfect for a movie night! From the rest, I’d plump for the grilled Chicken Club and its delightful accompaniments.

    1. We workout at least 5x a week and I try to space out the eating out or we’ll feel very gross and unhealthy. I love the phrase “culinary treasure chest”! Great choices!

  3. I’d say the disclaimer at the top of your post is very fitting. I am salivating after looking through all these delicious treats and sweets and food you sampled. That S’mores Bar looks so yummy!

    1. A disclaimer is needed for these posts 🙂 The S’mores bar was delicious and very rich! We could only eat 1/4 of it at a time.

    1. The s’mores bar was gluten free actually! Poshpop Bakeshop is 100% gluten free. They have so many delicious treats!

  4. Wow, “mouth-watering” is an understatement! Those cronuts look absolutely fantastic, and the chocolate chip pancake donuts also sounds like a dream! I’d never heard of upcycled sugar but it seems like it has great benefits!
