Foodie Friday: March 2022

Hi friends, welcome back to another addition of my monthly series showcasing all my delicious eats during the month. As you know, one of my favorite parts of living in NYC is the abundance of incredible food, and I’ve been on a mission to try all the best places and share my finds along the way. Disclaimer: these posts will cause hunger 🙂 If you want to stay up to date on all the foodie finds, you can follow my food Instagram here. March was a big month of eating, so this is a calorific edition of my Foodie Friday!!

As usual, I went to Dominique Ansel to grab the monthly cronut flavor of Ube Ganache & Thai Coconut Ganache Cronut. Not only is this cronut pretty, it was also one of my favorite flavor combinations so far. I’ve never had Ube before, and Thai Coconut sounded weird to me, so I was a little nervous for this flavor, but I loved it! It was the right balance of light, sweet, and creamy. This flavor was my third favorite, my ordering so far of most to least favorite: Salted Caramel Pretzel, Lychee Ganache & Mascarpone Ganache, Ube Ganache & Thai Coconut Ganache Cronut, Almond and Fig, Caramel Flan & Orange Marmalade, and Green Apple Butterscotch. Now that I’ve tried six flavors, I’m officially considering myself a Cronut Connoisseur 🙂

Jon and I had dinner at Dutch Fred’s before we saw The Music Man, and I had the Turkey Burger and Jon opted for the Fried Chicken Sandwich. This is a great spot to go before a show!

Café Panna makes gourmet ice cream, and I grabbed a pint of Cannoli Rainbow Cake. This ice cream was very rich and very delicious! They also have a shop in Gramercy Park that’s on my list to go to and try more flavors. I might have to add this flavor to my next Christmas Bucket list!

Twiggy to Go invited me into their café and I got to try the Indonesian Noodles, Salmon, Brownie, Maple Crueller, and Blueberry Scone. The Indonesian Noodles and Crueller were my favorites, but everything tasted great. This café is very cute and located in Tribeca, I’d highly recommend stopping here if you need something quick in the area. It’s a great spot for high quality, healthier options and the menu changes every few weeks.

We stopped by the café at the NYBG after the orchid show for lunch and to quote Jon “bad pizza is still pizza”.

Carnegie Diner invited us to their restaurant and this popular spot was delicious! The menu has almost anything you could possibly want, it’s one of the largest menus I’ve ever seen. We started with Strawberry Moscow Mules, and then we ordered the Caramel French Toast, Pastrami Sandwich, and 24-Layer Chocolate Cake. This meal was delicious and so filling! This spot is great to check out before a show, or if you want to spend time at Central Park. We walked through the park afterwards to ward off a food coma 🙂

Hey Yuet invited me to their restaurant for some delicious dim sum. This a change from places we usually dine at, so we were excited for a different cuisine. We ordered the Soup Dumplings with crab, Rice Roll with beef, Steam Rice with Spare Ribs, Panfried Pork Buns, Salted Egg Chicken, and Chicken with Chinese Broccoli. This meal was delicious and incredibly filling! If you live near Chelsea, this would be a great spot to add into your takeout rotation.

My friend Alex and her husband were in town so we met them at one of our favorite restaurants, The Emily in the West Village. This is the only restaurant in NYC I’ve been to three times, it’s one of my favorites and one I always recommend to people visiting NYC. We decided to share some pizzas and we split three with five people and had a slice and a half leftover. We ordered The Colony (sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, pickled chili, honey), The Emily (mozzarella, pistachio, truffle sottocenere, honey), and The Quinn (havarti, ricotta, mozzarella, pecorino). The Quinn is my least favorite because I’m not a huge ricotta fan, but it’s still tasty.

After lunch we stopped by Bandits for a drink to enjoy the beautiful day. We got the Truth or Pear (mezcal infused with pasilla & guajillo chile’s, pear, rosemary, lime, dehydrated blueberry salt), they were some pretty drinks! I enjoyed mine, but Jon wasn’t a fan.

The following weekend we had dinner at a Japanese restaurant called Ai Ki Ya, and I’ll be posting more about this unique dinner soon.

We were also invited to have lunch at Mudville 9 and I’m going to save this sports bar for a future post as well or this Foodie Friday will never end ha!

Home cooking for the month:

Jon made some delicious taquitos and birria tacos.

Jon made a Mediterranean bowl for dinner one night with homemade hummus, seasoned rice, homemade pickled onions (Jon’s new fav thing, but none ever make it on my plate), chicken thighs, seasoned rice, and a tortilla. Very flavorful!

A charcuterie board while we watched March Madness was the perfect light dinner after all the pizza at The Emily.

Jon’s homemade macaroni and cheese tasted a lot better than the boxed kind.

I remade our favorite Chewy Pumpkin Cookies with Brown Butter and Maple from Butternut Bakery, but this time I added chocolate chips. The brown butter made our apartment smell heavenly all afternoon, I’d highly recommend this recipe! They taste a bit like monkey bread and are the softest, chewiest cookies I’ve ever made.

I wasn’t exaggerating when I said there was a lot of yummy eats this month! What caught your eye?
