Hi friends, welcome back to another edition of my monthly series showcasing all my delicious eats during the month. As you know, one of my favorite parts of living in NYC is the abundance of incredible food, and I’ve been on a mission to try all the best places and share my finds along the way. Disclaimer: these posts will cause hunger 🙂 If you want to stay up to date on all my foodie finds, you can follow my food Instagram here.
As usual, I went to Dominique Ansel to grab the monthly Cronut flavor of Pineapple & Oolong Ganache for July. I am not a huge pineapple flavored fan, except for the actual fruit, so I didn’t love this cronut. It was a very strong pineapple flavor. Jon enjoyed this cronut, but it wasn’t my cup of tea.
August’s flavor was Matcha & Coconut and this one had a good mix of the two flavors. Usually, one flavor overpowers the other. I’m not the biggest matcha fan, so this one wasn’t one of my favorites, but if you like matcha you probably would love this.
My ordering so far of most to least favorite: Salted Caramel Pretzel, Cherry Jam & Cappuccino Ganache, Peach & Cornbread Ganache, Lychee Ganache & Mascarpone Ganache, Pumpkin Pie & Brown Sugar Ganache, Blueberry & Sweet Corn, Ube Ganache & Thai Coconut Ganache, Strawberry & Olive Oil, Lemon Curd & Graham Cracker Ganache , Blackberry Jam & Coconut Ganache, Early Grey & Okinawa black Sugar, Mango Jam & Milk Chocolate Ganache, Strawberry Poppyseed & Buttermilk, Raspberry & Pistachio, Honey Peach Jam & Graham Cracker Ganache, Almond and Fig, Matcha & Coconut, Passionfruit & Vanilla, Peanut Butter & Banana, Caramel Flan & Orange Marmalade, Pineapple & Oolong, Green Apple Butterscotch, and Black Truffle & Caramel Popcorn Cronut.
We had dinner with our friends at Keens Steakhouse near Times Square and this meal was amazing! The food is high quality and the portions are pretty large. I only have pictures of the porterhouse steak for three, but it easily fed four of us. It reminded me a lot of our steak in Florence.
Places I was invited to:
Sol Cucina is a Mexican restaurant with a few locations across the country. It recently opened in NYC and Jon and I had a great time checking it out! Make sure you come hungry because the portions are massive! We enjoyed the margaritas, Sol Guacamole, Carnitas Burrito, and Short Ribs Barbacoa.
Lovely’s Old Fashioned is an old school burger joint and is the perfect spot if you need a quick, delicious bite in Hell’s Kitchen. My favorite was the Charlotte’s Special with a delicious secret sauce. I also enjoyed the Double Cheeseburger and a Mushrooben (vegetarian option).
Draught 55 is a fun pub with a great selection of draft beer, fun cocktails, and delicious food! My favorite was the Nachos, Grass Fed Burger, Guinness Beef Stew, and the Hand Breaded Chicken Tenders. All of the entrees are under $25 which is a great deal in NYC, especially for the quality and freshness of ingredients.
Redeye Grill is an upscale, midtown staple located right across from Carnegie Hall and a few blocks from Central Park. We went here for brunch and a star from Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, Law and Order and Chicago Med, S. Epatha Merkerson, was sitting at the table behind us. We had the Tuna Tartare, Spicy Popcorn Shrimp, Waffles & Fresh Fruit, Avocado Toast with Fried Eggs and Smoked Salmon, and Chocolate Cake.
Steak Frites Bistro is a delicious French bistro not too far from Times Square and the Theater District. The menu features a good variety and an extensive wine list. Everything was so delicious from the complimentary sourdough bread to the hanger steak and addicting pommes frites. Some of the highlights were the Croque Madame, Hanger Steak 9oz, and Chocolate Ganache Soufflé. This meal was one of my favorites of the month!
What caught your eye this month?
I’ve just put a couple of inches on my waist! That chocolate cake looked amazing!
The chocolate cake was so rich and fudgey, good choice!
😎
You had me at cake Lyssy. We do not eat out much any more. Prices are too high and restaurants tend to be too busy. We went out Tuesday to our local French Canadian restaurant, which unfortunately will close for good at the end of this month. It was delightful, but noisy as everyone tries to squeeze in just one more visit. Happy September. Allan
The cake was delicious! We only have it eating out, because otherwise we’d have too much cake. Prices are high, I think if not for my Instagram, we’d only go out twice a month. That is a bummer your local restaurant closed!
Oh my 😍😍
A yummy, busy end to summer!
Oh that all does look so yummy!
It was a delicious few months 🙂
Everything looks so delicious, and I would definitely try those waffles!
I am always a sucker for waffles!
Oh, my gosh, Lyssy, it all looks so good. My picks would be the waffles and fresh fruit and the chocolate cake – not a slice – the entire cake! 😂Can’t wait to see what you’re going to be eating in September!
The entire cake reminds me of the seen in Matilda where the poor boy has to eat that massive cake. The cake at the restaurant was so rich and fudgey, it was perfect!
Mouthwatering!
A delicious few months for sure!
Turns out eating lunch while reading this post is one way to prevent it from making me hungry 😂😂
Haha you’ve cracked the code!!
I just had lunch, but I’m drooling at your photos! Probably unintentional, but a good pun with the Pineapple & Oolong Ganache cronut not being your “cup of tea” (as oolong is a type of tea, haha). All of this looks really good, and I’m looking forward to seeing where else you eat in September!
That is funny! Usually I try to make puns, but that one was so unintentional. I guess I’m subconsciously punny 🙂
I will never say no to chocolate cake and the piece from Redeye Grill looks heavenly. On the other hand, the waffles just above it were ruined by the banana slices on top 🙂 Also, one of these days your list of most-to-least-favorites from Dominique Ansel is going to be longer than the post itself. But I appreciate your honest reviews, as I agree pineapple never goes with pastry. And the green matcha filling… not so appetizing. They should’ve just settled for “coconut”.
It was very heavenly and rich! I am very specific about the way I like bananas, so I’d agree with you there. More berries would’ve been better. I am beginning to forget all the cronut flavors that I’ve had. I think I’ve been at this cronut tasting for two. years now.
Looks like you ate well during your birthday month! The Matcha & Coconut flavour cronut sounds amazing.
I’ve been craving some good Mexican food and Sol Cucina seems like a place that would do the trick. The food looks fabulous as always, Lyssy!
That soufflé! ❤️
