A Snowy Day in Central Park

Hi friends, welcome back! NYC hasn’t gotten much snow the past few years, so when I heard we were getting more than a few inches, I knew I had to take advantage. These pictures are from December 14th, 2025 when we woke up to a winter wonderland. I had already planned to see some of the Christmas decorations on the Upper East Side, so this was a bonus.

I entered the park on 59th Street near The Pond. This area of the park was especially popular with all the tourists in town for the holidays.

Gapstow Bridge.

Wollman Ice rink seemed at max capacity.

Such a beautiful day in the park.

The Mall is magical on a snowy day.

Bethesda Fountain.

Bow Bridge and a large population of geese.

The Conservatory Water is drained for the season.

Some final snaps as I made my way out of the park near 76th Street.

Central Park is always so magical after a snowfall! I will say now that we have had a few snowfalls and this bitter cold, I’m ready for spring.

  1. Magical pictures. I love how you always capture the bridge ….my favorite and I know yours too. Catch Yooper Steve on You Tube to see winter at its best in the U.P.

    1. The bridge is really the star of the show! I’ll have to check out Yooper Steve, I am sure he doesn’t battle the crowds for stunning views.

  2. You captured a magical day in NYC very well Lyssy. What a topsy-turvy weather world we are in. We are watching all the horrible East Coast weather reports these days as we bask ion February sun (as warm as 11C/52F) and get rain (not a good thing) instead of snow. Our streets are bare and lawns are showing. Thanks for sharing your Central Park scenes. Allan

    1. It’s been a brutal winter here! We could really use a 52 degree day to get rid of the residual snow. Today they had a plaza all roped off and when we walked by a huge ice chunk fell off the building and sounded like an explosion. Probably would’ve killed someone. Wish I could send some snow your way!

    1. Thank you! It really is hard to beat a fresh, clean snowfall. I agree, the slush and cold have been extra bad this year, especially the questionable puddles on the sidewalk curbs.

  3. So beautiful! I love clear skies and sunshine after a snowstorm when everything is shiny, and you’ve captured that so perfectly here. Hope you’re staying warm… you guys seem to be getting the winter that we aren’t.

    1. I do too, the blue skies really make the snow sparkle. Oh man it is a rough winter!! Sad when 20 degrees sounds warm. This weekend the wind was over 40mph. Felt like a tornado was coming, but a very cold one!

  4. So beautiful! My favorite time after a snowstorm is when all the snow is still clinging to the trees but the sun has come out and those blue skies really pop against the snowy branches.

    1. Thank you! It really was a perfect winter day and being before Christmas seemed extra magical.

    1. Thank you! It’s been such a crazy winter!! I’m so glad I didn’t have any travel plans. I hope M has been having lots of fun in it! Perhaps building her own Olaf 🙂

      1. Same! Our little M loves the snow, but it’s been a bit too cold for her to play outside in it. It’s finally supposed to start warming up a bit this week though. Finally!

  5. Snow and sunshine, what a magical combination to transform a place. I find it hard to recognise the places I’ve been to. I prefer your photos without people in them, it gives the impression of another world, but of course, the crowds are not far away. Very fine collection.

  6. The number of tourists in that first photo by the pond is impressive. It must’ve been a perfect day to be outside as long as you layered up. I love the tranquil look of the pond in the photos just after the one with the tourists. And I would’ve missed Gapstow Bridge in the first photo if you hadn’t labeled it. I’d call the jogger in the one photo “brave” for the inevitable patches of ice. Finally, I’m glad you chose not to include the photos I saw elsewhere of the garbage piling up in the streets for lack of trash service!

  7. The Gapstow Bridge photo is such a tranquil one and embodies the quietness of the new fallen snow. These will become some of your favorite photos I’m sure. Every photo is special in its own way. I do imagine it’s difficult to take a photo without “tourists” in it but there are a few without such.

  8. Absolutely unreal; I seriously thought your photos were AI! NYC is/was in winter wonderland this past winter, and I’ve heard it’s one of the snowiest/coldest that the city has seen in a very long time. While the scenery looks magical, I’m sure it’s freezing! Thanks for sharing, Lyssy 🙂

  9. Wow, it looks so beautiful and enchanting. It’s amazing to see how Central Park transforms into a serene, magical, and picturesque winter wonderland after a snowfall, with white-draped trees, quiet paths, and sparkling, snow-covered landscapes that offer a tranquil escape from the city’s hustle. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

  10. Magical, a real winter wonderland. The number of people at the Pond is amazing. I suppose it is a piece of luck to find yourself in New York City after such a significant snowfall. Loved seeing this collection of photos, Lyssy.

  11. Wow this is so beautiful! It really seems that Central Park is gorgeous all year round! I have a NYC trip lined up for the next year or so and this just makes me want to book my tickets already! Thanks for sharing the winter magic – here we very rarely get a lot of snow!
