Hi friends, welcome back! I believe they predicted NYC was in for a cold, snowy winter and so far they’ve been right! This past weekend winter storm Fern rolled through, and I was very happy we had nowhere to be. The meteorologists have hyped up prior snowstorms that didn’t come to fruition, so I was relieved they didn’t let me down this time! They said 6-12 inches, and Central Park recorded 11.4. Living up on the forty-fifth floor always feels like living in a snow globe. By the time we woke up the storm had started.

An hour later when the snow was coming down almost 2 inches an hour.

Around noon I layered up and headed out to see what the storm was about. It was too cold and windy to venture to Central Park, so I met up with my friend to find some pretty sights around our neighborhood. This was outside my apartment. Don’t think the stroller could’ve made it through.

We met up on Wall Street to start our adventure.

The Stock Exchange.

Trinity Church.

The Charging Bull.

Stone Street was our favorite spot of the walk. My fingers were starting to freeze from all my pictures.

Delmonico’s was our last stop before we called it a day.

These are from the following morning, the calm and cold after the storm.

Across the East River I noticed that it started freezing…

Violet and I made it out for a walk the following day and I was amazed by how clear a lot of the sidewalks were. It was hard to cross the streets at some intersections, but for 24 hours after a major snow storm I was impressed.

As quickly as the storm came, by Monday it seemed back to normal in the city. Next up will be my promised Central Park snow day 🙂
Great photos Lyssy. Gosh the 45th floor must feel as you are up in the clouds. How many floors does the building have in total?
Thank you! It really does feel like that, especially on foggy days. There are 62 floors in our building.
Excellent compendium of the storm Lyssy. You survived and NYC did itself proud getting it all cleared away. Our city took more than a month to deal with the snow from our winter, because the snow kept coming. Thanks for sharing. Allan
Thank you! NYC really has it down to a science it seems. Helps the ground is warmer from the subways. We luckily aren’t getting more snow for a while, but temperatures aren’t going above freezing anytime soon.
Wow, so many beautiful winter photos, dear Lyssy. New York City looks incredible wrapped in white. I love how the snow quietens streets, frosts skylines, and briefly turns even the loudest corners of the city into something softer, slower and even kind of beautiful. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx
Thank you! NYC is magical after a snowfall. I always love how quiet the streets are with the snow. It’s a nice break from the usual hustle and bustle.
🥰🥰🥰
Fab shots and it certainly looked very cold.
Thank you! Yes, it’s not expected to be above freezing for at least a week. I’m ready for spring now.
I loved seeing all your storm photos! I still haven’t ventured out yet. We did get some more yesterday and into this morning but just another inch or two on top of the 16 or so we got on Sunday. But from what I’ve heard roads are already pretty clear.
Happy to hear that! Oh wow that is a lot! Seems like the snow was light and easier to clear. Ready for this cold to be gone though, it’s frigid out there.
Great photos. We got 23 inches here in Boston, there’s nowhere to put the snow.
Thank you! Oh man that is a lot!! I saw a lot of big freight containers full of snow ready to be taken somewhere.
Props to you for getting out of the house during the storm, Lyssy. But I get it – we’re feeling the same sort of stir-crazy ourselves with the low temps. Hard to believe Fern covered a swath of the Eastern U.S. that includes your address and ours. Remarkable contrast of photos between the day-of and the day-after. And more props to you for the “jump” photo! I’d be more concerned about sticking the landing than getting a shot worth posting 🙂
We were all going stir crazy! These cold temperatures are tough, especially because down here is just a giant wind tunnel. It was amazing how large the storm was. Thankfully it wasn’t slick out when I took my picture. I thought I’ve still got it ha!
I love that you are embracing the weather. Living with the four seasons is the way to go. Unpredictable but never boring.
That is so true! I always love big storms and snow.
That’s a pretty quick clean up. I’m curious, since you do get quite a bit of snow, do people have snow tires on their cars? Or at least radial tires? Maggie
I was amazed how quick! I don’t think people around here have snow tires. Near the city we usually don’t get big snows often, but upstate I bet they do!
Brrr! I can’t believe how much snow fell in this storm, oh my gosh. I have friends on the east coast that got well over a foot. I’m glad you were able to get out and frolic in it (and share the photos with all of us).
Usually these storms are so overhyped! Probably best it happened on a weekend so people could plan to be home. When I took that pic I thought hey I’ve still got it ha!
You really have to be there to capture the moment. Fortunately, this much snow is exceptional, so enjoy the spectacle before it becomes a nuisance. Great, energetic photo of you!
Yes it was fun to enjoy it before I had to push the stroller through it! I had fun taking that picture 🙂
Great post and photos.
Thank you!
Glad to hear you survived the snowstorm and even managed to go out for a walk. Our streets are still a bit messy from all the snow. And looks like the snow is here to stay as it’s supposed to stay cold for the next couple of weeks.
We were going stir crazy! It’s going to be below freezing here for the next couple weeks too. They have giant hot tubs to melt the snow into the sewers. We’d go stir crazy without walking, but Violet has a big sleeping bag thing on her stroller and stays nice and warm.
“Living in a snow globe.” What a fitting description as long as no one shakes the globe. We, too, received the predicted snow with a topping of freezing rain. Those sub zero temps make 20 feel like 50! And, another storm headed for the east coast this weekend!
We did have a mini earthquake a few years ago! Luckily it hasn’t been too windy so it has actually not felt bone chilling cold even though the feels like are in the single digits. I am interested to see the storm this weekend. Seems there’s a chance it’ll miss NYC.
Violet joins her mommy!! so cute
Wow that snow is so deep! Love the photo of you jumping in the air 🙂
Bit of a nightmare, Lyssy- it looks grim! But that’s from someone who’s addicted to sunshine and warmth xx
