Hi friends, welcome back! We are having a great September and I hope you are too. Jon and I spent Labor Day weekend up north with my family in Petoskey, Michigan. My parents rented a house on a lake and it was such a relaxing place to say goodbye to summer. We biked, hiked, played pickleball, and I think everyone’s highlight was the day we rented a pontoon and spent the day out on the water. The following weekend we had our baby shower and had a surprisingly easy drive back to NYC. Now that we’re back in the city our weekends consist of fall fun and working on our long to-do list.

On to my post 🙂 I’ve been linking up with the first blogger I ever read, Shay Shull, for my What’s Up posts. Each month I’m answering the following questions:

What I’m eating: apple cider donuts and freshly picked apples

What I’m reminiscing about: our fall trip to Vermont in 2019

What I’m loving: we had such a nice time at our baby shower and loved being able to celebrate with our family and friends!

Favorite post of the month: my Fall Bucket List

What I’m Up to: all the fun fall things. We went apple picking with our friends last weekend, but I’ll admit it is a pain getting to the orchards from NYC. I think with traffic it took about two hours to get home. At least we had some good company!

What I’m working on: getting everything ready for baby. We finally ordered the nursery furniture so that’s a big task to cross off the list. It’ll get delivered in a few weeks so I think we got lucky.
What I’m excited about: going to the Great Jack O’ Lantern Blaze again. Last year it down poured the day we had tickets so we skipped the trek

What I’m watching/reading: We loved The Perfect Couple and we even saw Liev Schreiber on Friday right across the street from our Target. We’ve also been watching Emily in Paris, Only Murders in the Building, Schitt’s Creek again, and lots of football.
Books I read this month:
- Just for the Summer by Abby Jiminez
- Real Americans by Rachel Khong
What I’m doing this weekend: Jon’s parents are in town visiting and we have our friends baby shower/dadchelor party
What I’m looking forward to next month: our maternity pictures, all the Halloween things, and hopefully some nice fall weather!
What are you looking forward to in October?
So many beautiful photos, Lyssy, especially from your baby shower – you look stunning in that beautiful dress. It’s such a wonderful tradition – I wish we had it in Europe, too – for a gathering of close family and friends amongst tea and cake to celebrate the mum-to-be and the impending arrival of the baby. Thanks for sharing, and have a wonderful day 🙂 Are there any signs of colourful autumn leaves in New York City? 🙂 Aiva xx
Thank you! It was very hard for me to find a dress and that one was my last hope online order, luckily it fit perfect and was so comfy! It is nice here having showers for brides and babies, it’s special to celebrate with loved ones. No signs of the leaves changing in NYC, but we did a few colorful trees outside the city when we went apple picking. It seems NYC is the last the have he colors and they’re usually end of October.
I didn’t realise you were expecting- huge congratulations to you both! The weekend on the lake looks very relaxing. I also love seeing all the Autumn shots, we are getting better at celebrating the turn of the seasons here in the UK but not quite there yet.
Thank you, very exciting time for us! There’s something about being by the water that is always so relaxing to me. I think the East Coast is now having issues with over tourism in the fall because everyone wants to see the pretty leaves. Can’t say I blame the people!
Sounds like a lovely September so far! Hopefully the weather has cooled down a bit for you and the leaves have started to turn. That jack-o-lantern festival looks so bright and colorful and fun!
We seem to be in the awkward stage where it’s really cool in the morning but by the afternoon it’s pretty warm. I think in a few weeks it’ll start looking like fall around here. The festival is such a fun way to get in the Halloween spirit!
Wonderful! September came and went quite quickly! Here in Los Angeles, we survived a two-week heat wave, and now things are finally cooling down…sounds like a great time with the baby shower, and I hope your pregnancy goes smoothly! Have a happy October!
Glad to hear it’s cooling down! I’m very ready for that crisp fall air. Thank you! It’s going pretty smoothly, I’m definitely starting to slow down, but that’s par for the course. Happy October and happy climbing 🙂
Another busy month Lyssy. I forget whn you’re due?
December, just in time for Christmas 🙂
Pretty soon!!
Both terrifying and exciting ha!
We’ve been eating lots of fresh picked apple and cider donuts too. Your baby shower looks like it was so lovely.
The fresh picked apples have the best crunch! It was such a nice baby shower 🙂
I think my October is not going to be as exciting as yours! The building is fitting video entryphones so I need to be around to keep a close check on those doing the work. My twin godsons will be in town for a week so it’ll be lovely to catch up with them. Otherwise, it’s going to be relatively quiet.
Hopefully the workers are efficient and don’t cut corners. That will be great to catch up with your twin godsons, I’m sure they keep you very entertained!
Like all workmen, they work better under someone’s beady gaze.
Absolutely lovely Lyssy especially your baby shower photos with the arch of balloons.
Thank you! That balloon arch really turned out well. My cousin does that as a side job and she’s quite talented.
I love the way you celebrate fall in so many ways. In Canada it’s certainly my favourite season too. In Europe it’s different because the change is less brutal and there are ways of continuing the summer by heading south.
Fall is definitely getting commercialized here, but I still love it. All the fall colors are just so stunning in the US and Canada too. It is nice in Europe to have such beautiful places to visit to prolong summer.
Beautiful pictures from your baby shower. You look fantastic! Best of luck getting everything ready for the baby. And enjoy the rest of the fall festivities. I love this time of the year.
Thank you! I’ve been staying which helps tremendously as you know. I’m sure your fall will be extra fun with your little pumpkin 🙂
An awesome report of a great September Lyssy. You are looking good and so nice that you had time to share with your family and friends. We [icked apples in New Brunswick on our last day there and wish we could have brought some home on our flight yesterday. Happy Thursday. Allan
Thank you! It was nice to spend some time with our family and friends, although the shower just flew by! The fresh apples are so much better than my grocery store. I’ve almost eaten all the ones we picked sadly.
A lovely wholesome September – can’t wait for all your NYC fall content 🙂
Crazy it’s almost October! Feels like I’ve been waiting all summer for fall.
Fall is definitely a busy, beautiful season. I hope it’s a nice day when you go see the “Great Jack O-Lantern Blaze.” That sounds like so much fun. You & John look great in the baby shower photos. What lovely decorations.
Lake stays are usually very relaxing. I love fall, but some years it just seems too short.
A wonderful September, Lyssy. A lakeside stay is a wonderful way to relax and enjoy the last days of summer. I hope you have an amazing October.
The apple cider donut looks delicious! Your baby shower looked beautiful, and so do you! Everything is about to change, but in an awesome way Lyssy!
All sounds fab! Cant wait to see that baby!
Wow, you’ve had such a fun month! Thanks for reminding me it’s apple cider donut season!!! 😋
