Hi friends, welcome back! Christmas is getting closer and I’m wrapping up the season on my blog with part one of my Master List. These are decorations worth seeing, but not quite deserving of their own post. This post will cover everything at 14th Street and below. I’ll start at home with the building we see out our window lighting up red and green for Christmas and blue for Hanukkah, and the beautiful tree in our lobby.
The historic Bowling Green Park has a cute little tree and garland around the fence.
My favorite tree in NYC is the New York Stock Exchange tree because it has ornaments, pretty colored lights that twinkle, it’s two blocks from home, and there are hardly any crowds. This year was the 100th anniversary of this tree lighting making it an older tradition than Rockefeller.
Trinity Church and it’s neighbor are ready for the holidays.
The Seaport District tree is a little funny shaped this year, but still nice.
Wavertree has a Christmas tree on it’s mast.
Zuccotti Park
The Oculus has a winter village again and this year they’ve added a roller rink. It was fun people watching, there were a lot of wipeouts.
The buildings and park near World Trade Center have some beautiful trees.
FDNY Ladder Co. 10
The base of the Freedom Tower is even in the spirit!
Brookfield Mall is fabulously decorated and their luminary show is back again. The show starts on the top of the hour, but it only lasts two minutes. You can also ice skate outside with a view of the Statue of Liberty and Hudson River.
Washington Square Arch. I like the simplicity of the white lights and no ornaments here.
Union Square’s holiday market is back and my favorite booth was The Boiis. They sell Filipino and Japanese style desserts that are so delicious! They’re most famous for their “Mook” which is a shortbread cookie filled with mochi.
Chelsea Market was a bit of a letdown for me this year. I didn’t like the streamers over the silver lights, but the gingerbread houses were fun to look at. They are part of the world’s largest gingerbread collection that is built from scratch every year starting in March. Parts of the collection are displayed around the country for everyone to enjoy.
That wraps up part one, what display was your favorite?
