Hi friends, welcome back to another edition of my monthly series showcasing all my delicious eats during the month. As you know, one of my favorite parts of living in NYC is the abundance of incredible food, and I’ve been on a mission to try all the best places and share my finds along the way. Disclaimer: these posts will cause hunger 🙂 If you want to stay up to date on all my foodie finds, you can follow my food Instagram here.
As usual, I went to Dominique Ansel to grab the monthly cronut flavor of Earl Grey tea-infused ganache and Japanese Okinawa black sugar ganache. This one was very light and didn’t have a strong flavor. I think this one wasn’t as filled inside as they usually are, so it tasted more like a plain cronut. Jon said it didn’t have much taste, but I liked it.
My ordering so far of most to least favorite: Salted Caramel Pretzel, Lychee Ganache & Mascarpone Ganache, Blueberry & Sweet Corn, Ube Ganache & Thai Coconut Ganache Cronut, Early Grey & Okinawa black Sugar, Mango Jam & Milk Chocolate Ganache, Strawberry Poppyseed & Buttermilk, Honey Peach Jam & Graham Cracker Ganache, Almond and Fig, Passionfruit & Vanilla, Caramel Flan & Orange Marmalade, Green Apple Butterscotch, and Black Truffle & Caramel Popcorn Cronut.
My friend and I went to Smorgasburg near the World Trade Center and had so much fun trying out different booths. Smorgasburg is a weekly open-air food market and has locations in Jersey City, Lower Manhattan, Prospect Park, and Williamsburg. Each location has a different variety of booths and it’s always a lot of fun to visit. We shared the Fedoroffs Philly Cheesesteak, Cookies N’ Cream Bona Bona Ice Cream, K-Dogs potato and cheese dog, and some Mao Bao dumplings.
I was invited to all of the following restaurants:
My friend invited me to Mom’s Kitchen & Bar in Midtown and this fun restaurant is 90s themed with brunch food served all day along with lunch and dinner options. It’s right by all the Broadway theaters so it would be a good place to have dinner before a show. We got the Get Out of My Swamp (Shrek inspired) and Hot Girl Summer drinks. Hot Girl Summer was our favorite because we aren’t fans of the mezcal in the Shrek inspired drink. I got the Bedrock Pancakes for my entree and this was a lot of sugar! My friend ordered the Mac & Cheese pancakes and they tasted better than you would think. I don’t think I’d ever order a whole plate of them, but a bite was good. We finished off the meal with this Velvet Teddy milkshake!
The Cabin is a cool bar in Alphabet City that is known for their seasonal décor and menu. I was invited to check out their new fall menu and had such a great time. They have three new cocktails Sweet Flower, Clover Club, and Spiked Hot Cider. The Sweet Flower was my favorite, it was very light and refreshing. The Spiked Apple Cider was very strong and had a big kick the first few sips. I’m not a fan of gin so I didn’t try the other one, but it looked pretty. I chose the Butternut Squash Ravioli for my entrée and it was so delicious! The caramelized brown butter sage cream sauce was very sweet without being overwhelming. They also had a Cajun Blackened Shrimp sandwich and Autumn Delight Salad. For dessert this s’mores treat was delicious! It was very rich and tasted a bit like a brick of fudge with a toasted marshmallow on top.
Funny Face Bakery brought back their Pumpkin Sugar N’ Spice cookie and it’s always a delicious treat. My one wish is that they would put some chocolate chips in here, then it would be perfect.
Luv Pizza is a newer pizza shop near Times Square. They offer pizza by the slice and have a cool instagrammy interior. It’s a place to escape from the busyness of the area and recharge with a slice of pizza. Our favorite was the pepperoni slice but we also tried the margarita.
I shared more about our Underground Donut Tour here. They have tours all over the country and I’d definitely recommend joining one!
Last thing to share this month, Jon made this pizza and it was his best one yet! He makes the dough and sauce from scratch and cooked it on a pizza stone in the oven. We dream of the day we can have a pizza oven!
What caught your eye this month?
