Hi friends, welcome back! It’s officially spring, and the NYC weather did not disappoint this weekend. Jon and I originally planned on taking the subway uptown so he could get his suit for the wedding fitted and I could run into my office, but the beautiful weather encouraged us to continue venturing out and have an incredible first day of spring!
Jon and I took the subway to Grand Central and it was quite empty, but that is pretty typical for the weekend. I was a little nervous to ride the subway after not riding for so long, but it honestly felt like any other day. We walked through Grand Central Terminal on our way to the tux rental and it was noticeably quiet.
Mid-town is typically pretty quiet one the weekends, so we didn’t see many people while we ran our errands. Afterwards, we walked over to Rockefeller Center so I could get some pictures, but it was closed for construction.
St. Patricks Cathedral is across the street from my office, but I still need to go inside one day!
I was so happy to be outside on this beautiful, sunny day, so we decided to head north to Central Park. It felt like any typical weekend day we used to have before the pandemic.
We walked through the southern part of the park and it made me incredibly happy to see everyone out and about. Kids were playing kickball, ice skating, climbing the rocks, and running about. People were having socially distanced picnics and there were dogs everywhere. If it wasn’t for the masks, you’d think it was a typical spring Saturday and I had a big smile under my mask!
All this extra walking gave us an appetite, so we headed back downtown to get – you guessed it – ice cream! Big Gay Ice Cream has been closed since March 2020 and I was so excited they reopened the Seaport Location last week! I’m a creature of habit so I ordered a twist in a cone with some dulce de leche sauce and rainbow sprinkles. Jon opted for the same but with Oreos.
It didn’t taste as good as I remembered, but we will give it another shot! Jon and I had the best, unexpected spring day in NYC. It reminded me of all the things I love about living in NYC and gave me hope that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
