Hi friends, Happy New Year! Jon and I are back in NYC after spending some much-needed time with family – more to come on that! We drove back from Georgia Saturday and spent yesterday unpacking, cleaning, and organizing the apartment. It feels so great to start the year off clean and fresh. I’ll admit, my Christmas décor is still up because I needed a little more time with it, but this weekend I’ll get it all organized and put away. Hopefully 2021 will be a year filled with great memories and collecting more ornaments from places I’ve been!
I always like to reflect on the past year and think about my goals for the new year (I wrote down about 15!), but today I am sharing some habits I cultivated in 2020 that I’m bringing into 2021. While 2020 was a rough year, it also brought along some changes that I want to implement permanently.
- Practicing yoga (almost) daily – in April I downloaded the Peloton app and instantly fell in love with their yoga classes! I had been going to yoga twice a week pre-pandemic, so I was worried about not keeping up my practice and losing the little flexibility I had gained. With the Peloton app, I started doing yoga almost every day after work, even if it was only a twenty-minute restorative class, and it was the perfect way to unwind and stretch after sitting all day. I can definitely tell how much my flexibility has increased after over half a year of regular practice. I’m currently working towards a yogi headstand away from the wall 🙂
- Reading more – I read 17 books in 2020, a huge increase from the maybe five books I read in 2019. I have always loved reading, but it was on the backburner until this past year. Some of my favorite books I read in 2019 were The Great Alone, Educated, and American Royals.
- Traveling Local – Jon and I adventured on two road-trips this year (Lake Placid & our East Coast Road Trip) and had the best time! We loved exploring upstate NY and are excited for more hiking and exploring now that we have a car!! Last year I created a NY hiking bucket list, so I’m looking forward to crossing some off this year. I am also excited to explore the Hudson Valley, Long Island, and go golfing!
Do you all have any habits you’ve developed in quarantine that you want to continue?
