Hi and welcome to my blog!
My name is Alyssa and I’m a twenty something year old living in NYC. I grew up in Michigan and never dreamed of living in the city, let alone NYC. But alas, I fell in love with a guy who lives in Manhattan (oddly enough he used to live up the street and drive me to high school) I’m creating this blog to document my journey from the suburbs to living in NYC, and all life’s moments in between. I officially moved to NYC in May 2018 and now I can’t imagine ever leaving the city!
I love to travel and plan trips! My favorite places have been Greece, Scotland, Yosemite, Nantucket, and Lake Tahoe.
I have a passion for food and fitness, and a MAJOR weakness for ice cream. I run the foodie instagram @lyssyinthecity.eats
I could spend hours every day wandering the aisles of Trader Joe’s.
I love to cook with Jon and make healthier versions of our favorite foods.
I’m obsessed with Golden Retrievers and could burst with excitement at just the thought of having my own (when I have a house and yard of course).
I think I’m funny and laugh at my own jokes.
I’m a proud Michigan State University alum and will forever bleed green (how I ended up with a Michigan grad is beyond me)

Hi Alyssa,
I really enjoyed your recent post about Pier 57! I would have never known that this place existed without you – thank you for sharing this with us and for sharing such interesting historical and architectural facts about this spot. I also visited Little Island when it first opened up last year and thought it was an interesting and beautiful spot, but I may pay it another visit after seeing your photos. It definitely looks like a great place to hang out when the weather is sunny and cool!
My name is Will and we’re looking for NYC-based creators in the area to work with to help spread the word about our gourmet international food court – Gansevoort Market in the Oculus.
We’re a Korean-American owned business that was hit hard by the pandemic and we’re trying our best to get more people to try out our amazing food! Gansevoort Market is a great hidden gem for anyone visiting NYC/Oculus looking for diverse food options.
We’d love to bring you in, get to learn more about you, and show you around the various restaurants inside our market, as well as treat you to a meal of your choice. If you’re interested in swinging by for a free meal in exchange for a written post or simply an included mention/link in one of the existing posts (nyc focused) in your blog, please let me know! Our most popular items include ceviche, sushi, Korean fried chicken, and Peruvian Pulpo!
Thanks in advance,
Will & The Gansevoort Team
Trader Goes and Golden Retrievers. Kindred spirits! Following
My two favorite things!
Hi Alyssa! I have a “Lyssy” too! She’ll be 35 this year and now has 3 girls of her own. A golden retriever was a part of her life while growing up and she spelled her name the same as you and was known as Lyssy when younger. She’s a Penn State grad so on the other side of the gridiron 😉
Have you read ‘The Personal Librarian’? It got off to s bit of a slow start for me but it will open your eyes to an entirely new understanding of the Morgan Museum. I’ll be visiting during upcoming the Belle Da Costa Green exhibition because of the impact the book had on me. Thank you for the blog post!
