New York Botanical Garden Orchid Show 2026

Hi friends, welcome back! The day before we got pummeled by the blizzard, we had a lovely day at the New York Botanical Garden. They are hosting their 23rd annual orchid show and it was the perfect place to disassociate from winter. This year’s theme is The Orchid Show: Mr. Flower Fantastic’s Concrete Jungle. Mr. Flower Fantastic is a Queens native floral artist that designed this year’s show as a tribute to the resiliency of orchids and NYC.

Mr. Flower Fantastic said, “This show shines a light on spaces and places that might get overlooked. There’s a beautiful chaos in the concrete jungle, and life in bloom. This show is my offering to you, a seed to plant in people’s hearts and minds…”

I love the nod to the subway here, a clever touch.

The NYBG describes the show as “An homage to his hometown, Mr. Flower Fantastic’s Concrete Jungle reimagines some of New York City’s most important but often overlooked spaces-from slice shops to laundromats-showing that life blooms in the in-between moments and in those where we come together. MFF invites us to imagine a New York where flowers are rooted in the living fabric of the city, where orchids transform icons of the everyday, and a greener world is possible.”

The orchids in my house never quite thrived like these.

The show runs through April 26th and you can visit Tuesday through Sunday from 10am-6pm. We went the weekend after Valentine’s Day and right before the blizzard so there weren’t any crowds. Last year we made the mistake of going on Easter weekend and it was a zoo! It’s always a great day at the botanical garden, but I think this orchid show is a must see for flower enthusiasts.

  1. What an awesome display Lyssy. So glad you got there before the blizzard day. I love how they have inserted the orchid displays into scenes of everyday life. Have a great Wednesday. Allan

    1. They really did a great job with the show! It’s always interesting to see what kind of theme they pick and how they bring it to life.

  2. Beautiful! I love orchids so much, so I can only imagine how amazing it must be to see so many of them like this. I’m not sure if it’s an orchid (is everything here an orchid, or are there other flowers too?), but I really like the photo of the turquoise flowers… it’s a very unique color.

    1. I do too although they never fare well in my apartment ha! That one is called a Jade Vine, I had never seen anything like it. I thought they looked like little peppers.

  3. Who knew there were so many varieties of orchids? Oddly, my favorite creation may be the gang tag on what appears to be a subway wall. Not so oddly, your second photo of the nearby outdoors with the wooden bridge, ice flow and leftover snow is a really nice composition.

    1. It’s pretty amazing how many varieties there are. That tag is a nice touch, they really did a good job with the small details. That wooden bridge is a nice spot to sit and relax by in the summer, but it’s very photogenic in the winter too.

      1. I have your Spartans making the Eight this year (and thanks for lending me your bandwagon; as usual I’ve got nothing out of South Bend 🙁 ).

      2. You have a little more faith in them than me ha! I think I did sweet 16 due to their disappointing big 10 tournament showing. Sadly picked Michigan to go to the Final Four.

  4. Impressive! The orchids are so lovely and bring a pop of color to the otherwise dreary cold winter. Thanks for sharing, Lyssy!

    1. I don’t have a green thumb so I’m always impressed by botanical gardens. It’s just enough pop of color to give some hope for spring!

  5. The Orchid Show looks absolutely beautiful Lyssy and I adored viewing all your photos. You definitely picked the best weekend to visit this year and got there before the blizzard struck.

    1. It was such a beautiful show, they did a great job! It’s hard to avoid crowds in and around NYC but we managed to do it.

  6. Absolutely beautiful! We went to an orchid show at our local botanical gardens (last year– I think?) and we just LOVED it so much. It’s so fun seeing all the pretty colors and blooms in winter.

    1. Such a beautiful show! It’s always nice being in a greenhouse in the winter, almost feels like a mini tropical vacation.

    1. Kew Gardens was on my list if we would’ve moved! Guess I’m not missing out on too much 🙂

    1. It was the perfect way to spend a winter day. I’d never seen anything like that jade vine before.

  7. Absolutely delightful! Orchids – precisely what one needs just before a blizzard. We are planning to purchase a couple of orchids for our apartment this Spring. I hope they’ll fare well.

    1. We got a nice little escape from winter in that gorgeous greenhouse. Orchids are nice, if only I could keep them alive! Can’t even keep a succulent plants alive long…

  8. Astonishingly accurate with the designs for the laundromat as well as the everyday spaces we may use. What a delight it must have been to enjoy the tropics before winter’s end or so we thought. Beautiful photos! My sister takes her orchid to Florida with her every winter and it thrives. She says just a couple ice cubes a week and leave it. I’ve always wanted to try my hand at orchids. Someday?

  9. Wow, this is so beautiful. I have a few orchids around the house as I have always loved their floral shapes, vibrant colour palettes, and refined, symmetrical appearance. I’ve never been to an orchid show, but I would love to visit as they seem to offer an opportunity to see rare, award-winning species and stunning, creative displays that go far beyond what is available in commercial stores. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

  10. We’ve been to New York a few times before but haven’t visited the NY Botanical Garden. It looks lovely, especially for the orchid show. Beautiful captures of all the beautiful orchids.
