Summer Bucket List 2024

Hi friends, welcome back! This week is officially the start of summer, although it’s felt like summer for a few weeks already in NYC with these heat advisories. I think summer is my third favorite season behind fall and spring now because summer is NYC is tough. The buildings trap the heat which amplifies all the unique smells, and the subway platforms are about 10 degrees hotter and 100% more humid. While I enjoy the longer hours of sun and a good summer thunderstorm when I have nowhere to be, I’m not so secretly dreaming of crisp fall days. Jon and I don’t have a crazy, busy summer planned like the last few years, but we’re heading to Nantucket next week to scratch our travel itch. I hope you all have a great summer!

Summer Bucket List:

  • Have a BBQ with friends
  • Read an easy beach read
  • Have a picnic in Central Park
  • Take a day trip out of the city
  • Try a new ice cream shop
  • Dine outside
  • Have our morning coffee outside
  • Eat all the summer fruits
  • Avoid getting sunburned

I got a head start on my summer fun:

  • Summer reading: The Summer We Started Over & Summers at the Saint
  • I made these crowd pleasing s’mores bars I found from Broma Bakery
  • Attend an outdoor yoga class
  • My friends and I got pizza and went to the roof at Pier 17 for a Mamma Mia movie night. It was the perfect night and so fun! During the credits everyone was up singing and dancing

What are you looking forward to this summer?

  1. A good list to have Lyssy. I wish for you some cooler days and a few less unique smells. I have been watching the heat on the East Coast. It is even 34C in Fredericton. Here yesterday, it got to 20C, but heading for 28 by Sunday with some thunder boomers. Have a great time in Nantucket. Allan

    1. Thank you! Luckily we will avoid some of the hot days in Nantucket where it only gets in the low 70s. Sounds pretty nice!

  2. I feel like we’ve gotten a jump start on our summer list too! I hope you have a great time in Nantucket.

    1. It feels like summer started early, I hope it’s the same for fall but I doubt it haha. Thank you!

    1. It was so fun except I wish I had a chair, my back really paid the price! Hope you have a great summer too 🙂

  3. It’s also warming up here in LA! And I was just in the South recently, which was SUPER hot. Summer is officially here, and I hope you beat the heat! Slather that sunscreen to avoid sunburns! Enjoy the rest of your summer 🙂

    1. Oh yes the south is so muggy! We try to avoid visiting Jon’s parents in Atlanta in the summer haha. I am very good about my sunscreen now, hoping it pays off with less wrinkles one day 🙂

  4. A lovely list with summer activities! I am also not really in love with these torrid days of the summer😍 Hopefully today’s thunderstorm will bring cooler temperatures (and not more humidity) 😀
Enjoy the rest of your summer!

    1. This heat is relentless! Hope it cooled down for you!! My hair does not do will with the humidity haha. Hope you have a great summer!

  5. Interesting list! I’m looking forward to a few trips but my OH broke his wrist yesterday (bike accident) which has put a bit of a dent in our planned activities but I’m sure I can come up with more.

    1. Oh no! Hopefully he is a good patient for you and his wrist heals quickly. I have no doubt you will come up with a great plan B.

    1. I try so hard with the sunburn. I have this visitor beach hat that I wore so well in Miami, but then my part got burned, go figure ha! I’m looking forward to going back to that ice cream shop next week 🙂

  6. It’s definitely feeling like summer and we’ve been under heat advisories all week too. The long hours of daylight is great, but not so much the heat and humidity. Best of luck with your summer bucket list.

    1. The humidity is so bad! I’ve been closing my blinds like a vampire to help keep it cooler. Thankfully our building has ac units so we aren’t miserable.

  7. Looks like a good start to your summer and a solid bucket list! While we’ve been baking down here in the city a bit as well (with more heat to come), I’m looking forward to the snow finally melting in the mountains so I can do some hiking. Have fun in Nantucket, can’t wait to read all about it!

  8. What a great list that incorporates a lot of our recent trip, June 8-12, it was amazing!! The weather couldn’t have been better (but we came home to Indianapolis’ high temps and humidity). My daughter and I had tickets to workout with Denise and Katie Austin at a studio in Union Square on the day we flew in, that was certainly a highlight! We had pizza and ice cream by the water in Brooklyn, I laid down in Central Park/Sheep Meadow for a photo (ha ha), and we ate almost every meal outside which was wonderful!! 🙂

  9. Your summer will be filled with fun. The outdoor movie night reminded me of a drive-in movie except there probably wasn’t any necking going on.

  10. What a happy sounding list!! I love the idea of outdoor movies – we went to one in Athens a few years back – wouldn’t work here though – we’d never guarantee the weather!

  11. The heat is on down here too but it’s to be expected by now. The humidity is what will make things fairly miserable. We can count on high humidity all of July and August, almost like the flip of a switch from June. I look forward to escaping it! The Viking cruise was a good start but a trip to the San Diego beaches in August should be even better. I’ll be interested to hear what makes your list of summer fruits. Some agree with me; others not so much 🙂

  12. While some people like to put together say a lifetime bucket list, I prefer to make bucket lists for short periods such as the summer and autumn. I am glad to see I am not the only one doing so! I love your summer bucket list, Lyssy – with summer being such a short time, it’s a great way to really dive in and try to enjoy as many of these summer bucket list ideas as possible! Thanks for sharing, and have a lovely day 🙂 Aiva xx

  13. The hydrangeas are so vivid this year. I’m not sure if it’s from all that rain in the spring or another reason. I am thoroughly enjoying photographing them as well. Love that you chose them and the ice cream photo as your beginning. Oh, yes, the muggies arrived early here as well but what a relief the last couple of days (lows in the mid-50s at night). What a great list you have for the summer. Enjoy!! Did you get your book read?

  14. I always love your seasonal content so I really enjoyed reading your summer bucket list! Mine also includes going on a picnic, trying a new ice cream place and dining outside! I can’t wait to start working on it but so far the weather here feels more like March or November… Summer is my favourite season so I can’t wait to enjoy the warm days!

  15. A solid summer bucket list Lyssy. We have had a very low-key summer so far but are looking forward to our birthdays and an extended period of travel where we’ll be crossing off 4 new countries in 4 weeks.

  16. I’ll be happy to see Nantucket again through your eyes, I spent a lovely day there during my stay on Cape Cod, dreaming of one day staying in one of these pretty New England houses.
