Central Park Spring Tour 2024 – Part One

Hi friends, welcome back! We recently had a beautiful 70-degree, spring day and I knew I had to take full advantage of it. My plan was to see the blooms and cherry blossoms in the northern half of the park, but it was such a perfect day, so I ended up walking the whole park. I also only planned on one post, but it’s too hard for me to narrow down pictures. Part one will feature pictures from the northern half of the park from 110th Street to 86th Street. I took the 2/3 subway to 110th Street and the station is right across from the northern most entrance of Central Park. Behind Harlem Meer Lake they are still doing construction on a rink, large pool, splash pad, and community building. The project started in September 2021, but it doesn’t look like it’ll be done anytime soon.

I was bummed to see one of my favorite parts of Central Park under construction. Per the website, “The North (French-style) Garden, allées in the Center (Italianate) Garden, and pergola in the Center (Italianate) Garden are currently closed to accommodate our ongoing restoration of the Conservatory Garden. The restoration of the South (English-style) Garden is complete, and the space is open to the public”

The website also has this cool picture of the area from 1937 when this part of the park was created.

I was a little early in the season for the South Garden, they were in the middle of planting, but it was still beautiful!

I’m so glad they take such good care of Central Park.

Moving south I noticed how green everything looked from all the rain these past few months.

As I got closer to the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir the amount of cherry blossoms started increasing.

I always love the reflections on the reservoir.

The path along the reservoir has the prettiest canopy of cherry blossoms.

Hope you enjoyed part one, stay tuned for part two!

  1. Oh, I was waiting for this one Lyssy. Nothing beats blossom time in Central Park. Glad to see they are still working hard to keep this park in tip top shape. Thanks for sharing. Allan

    1. Glad to hear that! Central Park is so pretty with all the blooms, good to see people out and about again. Central Park must have a huge payroll!

    1. There were so many cherry blossoms! I felt like I was on a treasure hunt finding them all 🙂

  2. Ah, those reflection photos are so satisfying Lyssy, almost like paintings. Is the paved path along the lakes the same width everywhere or is it even wider in other places? I’ve seen joggers on those paths (mostly from the movies) and wondered if it gets difficult to navigate during the more popular times and days. The renovations don’t surprise me with the size of the Park; it seems some project/repair/upgrade would always be going on somewhere within its borders. The team of people who manage and make these decisions is probably larger than I would guess.

    1. The paths are all the same except for The Mall which is pretty wide. It does get very congested, especially on the weekends but for the most part cars aren’t allowed to drive in the park (there are a few streets connecting the UWS and UES that go through the park) so people can walk in the street too. Just have to be careful with all the bikers. It’s good people care about the park and want to keep improving and making it more accessible. I am sure there are a lot of hands involved in the decisions.

  3. Your photos are so beautiful and so is New York in springtime. It seems like after a long, cold winter, spring in New York is nothing short of pure bliss with the streets coming back to life with people while the parks and gardens bloom with flowers. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

    1. Thank you! NYC really blossoms in the spring, it’s such a pretty time of year. I also love seeing everyone out and about looking cheerful with the warmer temps and blooms.

    1. Thank you! Spring is one of my favorite time of year in the park. Makes me happy seeing all the colors and blooms.

  4. How beautiful. I love the tulips and blossom. I’ve been upset this year as the blossom trees in my garden were all eaten by pidgeons before the bloom was full!

    1. Those darn pigeons, how rude! We have lots of pigeons, but they must have enough food to not venture into the CP gardens haha

  5. Beautiful flowers and blossom Lyssy. We were also a bit fed up to discover those parts of the park under construction. Never mind, another excuse to return. Hope your weekend is going well. M.

    1. It was such a beautiful day in the park! I usually know when parts of the park are under construction so I was very surprised. We had a great weekend watching golf 🙂

      1. It is such a beautiful course! Hopefully I’ll make it there one day. I do play golf, but not often since moving to NYC. Too much of a hassle to get to the courses for our liking.

    1. It was a perfect day in the park! Definitely lifts the mood after a long winter 🙂

  6. I lived in Brooklyn most of my life–now living retired in Colorado. It’s nice to see Central Park in Spring bloom! Lovely photos!

  7. Just lovely! You can tell it was such a beautiful weather day by those still water reflections.

  8. Your photos are stunning! I enjoyed part 1. I was especially taken by the reflections in the water. What a sight.

  9. Wooow, this is stunning! I love all the bright-coloured tulips and the cherry blossoms, I would totally see myself spending many spring afternoons just walking around of having a picnic under the trees!

  10. Thank you for taking us along on your Central Park spring tour! It is interesting that you covered so much ground despite some areas being under construction. Your photos and descriptions of the cherry blossoms and the lush greenery really capture the beauty of the park in springtime!
