Foodie Friday: November 2022

Hi friends, welcome back to another edition of my monthly series showcasing all my delicious eats during the month. As you know, one of my favorite parts of living in NYC is the abundance of incredible food, and I’ve been on a mission to try all the best places and share my finds along the way. Disclaimer: these posts will cause hunger 🙂 If you want to stay up to date on all my foodie finds, you can follow my food Instagram here.

As usual, I went to Dominique Ansel to grab the monthly Cronut flavor of Pumpkin Pie & Brown Sugar Ganache. This one was delicious and tasted exactly how I imagine fall would taste. It had a hint of pumpkin spice with a brown sugar after taste, perfection!

My ordering so far of most to least favorite: Salted Caramel Pretzel, Cherry Jam & Cappuccino Ganache, Lychee Ganache & Mascarpone Ganache, Pumpkin Pie & Brown Sugar Ganache, Blueberry & Sweet Corn, Ube Ganache & Thai Coconut Ganache Cronut, Early Grey & Okinawa black Sugar, Mango Jam & Milk Chocolate Ganache, Strawberry Poppyseed & Buttermilk, Honey Peach Jam & Graham Cracker Ganache, Almond and Fig, Passionfruit & Vanilla, Caramel Flan & Orange Marmalade, Green Apple Butterscotch, and Black Truffle & Caramel Popcorn Cronut.

I was invited to the following places:

Zanmi Soho is a new Jamaican restaurant and we tried out their brunch menu. They have bottomless brunch for $45 and that includes your choice of entrée. We aren’t really bottomless people, but enjoyed a mimosa. I ordered the delicious and flavorful Chicken & Waffles and Jon ordered the Shiktay Sandwich (shredded cod).

Tacombi is a popular taqueria with ten locations across NYC. The founders started out as a food truck in Playa Del Carmen before eventually opening the first Tacombi in NYC. We started with a huge plate of guacamole and a Margarita and Mezcal Mule. My favorite dish was the Adobada Burrito with roasted pork, rice, beans, cabbage, spicy escabeche & dried chile salsa. I usually prefer tacos over burritos, but it wasn’t the case here. We also enjoyed the Carnita, Carne Asada, and Pollo Yucateco Tacos.

I went to a foodie event at Pelicana Chicken and loved all the fried goodness and how it was displayed for us! Pelicana was the first Korean flavored chicken shop and opened in South Korea in 1982. They now have over 3,000 locations worldwide including 28 in the US. Pelicana focuses on freshness and quality of ingredients to achieve their delicious taste. The chicken wings all tasted delicious and I enjoyed trying the different flavors. I also had to order the “Shark Bite” drink because it was so over the top. You squeeze the shark and strawberry syrup comes out to look like blood.

Lady Bird is a cool new cocktail bar in Hell’s Kitchen. Jon and I tried out their brunch menu and I loved that they had brunch food as appetizers. I feel like I rarely see menus like that. We started with the Up in Smoke Cocktail and Sweetie Pie Old Fashioned and these were delicious and so cool! For appetizers we indulged in both savory and sweet items, the best of both worlds! We got the French Toast Bites, Chicken & Waffle Sliders, and Chorizo Wonton Cups. They were all so good and complemented each other perfectly. For entrees I opted for the Smashburger and Jon went with the Bacon, Egg, & Cheese sandwich.

Last but not least, my friend invited me to Antonya BBQ, a delicious Korean BBQ spot in Koreatown. This spot received a Michelin Bib Gourmand Award in 2021 so I was excited to check it out. They pride themselves on using the highest quality ingredients & authentic Antoya’s BBQ recipes. We were a bit overwhelmed by all the options, but our server guided us through the menu and we had an incredible meal! We started with some fun drinks, mine was called Love Potion and they had some dry ice in it to make it look like a potion brewing. We shared the Modeum So Gui with Prime Rib Eye, Sliced Prime Short Ribs, and Marinated Cubed Prime Short Ribs. We were very relieved they cooked it for us. You can definitely taste the high quality of meat and their seasoning. We also shared the Kimchi Fried Rice with sliced beef brisket. We were stuffed but this was an incredible meal! I’d definitely come back with Jon one day.
