Picnicking on Governors Island

Advertisements

Hi friends, welcome back! The weather in NYC is absolutely perfect right now and Jon and I took full advantage this past weekend and made our annual trip to Governor’s Island. We tore ourselves away from watching the Ryder Cup and boarded the ferry at 10 South Street. This was our fourth time going to the island, so we just planned to have a picnic and stroll around. If you want to check out my prior, more detailed posts on the island you can here, here, and here.

Jon and I headed left after disembarking the ferry and headed in search of some wood-fire pizza from Pizza Yard. We ordered the Piccante – tomato, mozzarella, spicy salami. Oh how we wish we had a pizza oven!

We set up our picnic blanket in the shade and enjoyed the pizza with a beautiful view of Lower Manhattan.

This pizza tasted delicious and was the perfect size to share for a lighter meal. You could definitely make this a personal pizza as well if you’re really hungry. Pizza Yard also has a location at the Brooklyn Navy Yard if you don’t make it out to Governor’s Island.

After finishing our pizza, we walked around enjoying the beautiful fall day. In my opinion, Governor’s Island has the best view of the Statue of Liberty!

Every time Jon and I go to Governors Island, we always make a stop at Melt Bakery for ice cream cookie sandwiches. I picked the Red Velvet and Jon changed it up and ordered the Cinnamax – cinnamon sugar cookies with cinnamon ice cream.

All of the green is so refreshing!

We ended the day by hanging in Hammock Grove.

We had the best afternoon on Governor’s Island! I love our tradition of going to Governor’s Island, it’s always such a relaxing and enjoyable afternoon. Do you have a special spot?
