I moved to NYC!

Hi Friends!

I’m officially Lyssy in the City!

It’s been a busy last week trying to finish packing and seeing everyone before I left. It still seems so surreal that I’m really living here, I’m so used to being here for only a weekend.

In February I asked my firm if I could transfer to NYC at the end of May, and luckily that got approved. I will be starting in the new office June 1st. The transfer turned out to be one of the easier pieces of the move. I had a lot of loose ends to tie up before I left, but the hardest part of the move was the logistics.

I didn’t know how I was going to get my things to NYC. Jon and I had talked about flying, driving,  and shipping my things with a moving company/cube. My goal was to have all of my belongings in one trip and to be all unpacked before I started working. That way I wouldn’t have to worry about unpacking, and could focus on adjusting to the new office.

I thought the easiest way to get all my things was driving. I liked that I was in control of my belongings and didn’t have to worry about them getting damaged or lost. However, that plan didn’t work because none of the Ford dealerships would take in an out of state lease. It was a little less then two weeks before I moved when I found out this plan wouldn’t work and I got very stressed out!

My mom suggested that I ask my office if I could ship things with their UPS discount, and this turned out to be the magical solution. I ended up shipping four 50 pound boxes for less than $20 each which was the cheapest option available as well. Then I booked a one-way airfare to get myself there. I spent all weekend before my move packing up and cleaning out my room. It’s such a strange feeling packing up your whole life into four boxes and a few suitcases.

All of the boxes arrived before I got to NYC and everything appears to have gotten here safely so far. I just want to unpack, but we are waiting on a dresser and some other storage to get shipped here.

On Friday I had my last workout at Lifetime and then finished up packing my carryon and checked bags. I dropped off my lease at Ford and was officially a millennial without a car.

My family(Kris too) dropped me off at the airport and I flew to NYC with a one-way ticket!

Jon was in baggage claim when I landed, and I was so happy to see him.

I can’t wait for all the adventures I’ll take and memories I’ll make while living in the city 🎉
